Well, ladies.... Sonya just called. Her water broke last night at 11:00 and she's at the hospital. Not a lot going on, she's not having ~bad~ contractions, and she isn't dialated yet, she's waiting for the midwife to come in this morning, they might give her something or another that will bring her into labor. She's been told to expect her maybe around dinner time.
I don't know when to go visit.... should I go now? or wait until she's born? I think she'll be bored sitting there all day, so I prolly should go just to break up her day.
Oh wow! I'd go now if I were you...she'll appreciate the company.
Hi everyone.....Andy had a great day yesterday....they moved him out of ICU to the surgical ward. He is still having a hard time at night...especially now that he is in a room....by himself...with "strange" people in and out. His body is still processing out some of the heavy sedation...which along with his trauma...gives him very "weird" dreams....its hard for him to relax totally. so we are staying with him at night to make sure he feels safe.
Many thanks for your thoughts and prayers....it will give all of us the strength to handle the many challenges ahead!
God Bless!
Chris and George
OK - I think I'll go later on and see her.... I'm not moving yet.
Can I bring her a cigarette and a beer? Or is it too soon for that?
For Sonya, or the baby?
Thanks for the update, 2J! So good to hear he's doing better, at least!
Thanks for the update 2J.... Glad he is improving. With my very brief hospital experiences, I think I understand a little about what the sedation drugs do ... at least I also felt a little paranoid about the people coming in and out, felt sure they were up to something sinister. Is that pretty common?
For Sonya.... the baby will have to sneak her own cigarettes and beer till she's ... same as the rest of us had to do.
er... till she's older....
Ack, pitocin, nasty, vile stuff! Actually it speeds things up quite nicely, but it tends to magnify the effects of labor. Had to have that with my first, and totally refused with Joseph. He came in his own sweet time.
When I wasn't dilating with Joseph, they gave me a glucose drip, and things progressed quite nicely; went from 2 cm to 9cm in one hour without the hasty feeling of the pitocin.
She might enjoy your visit now, if you can make the trip. I was so totally bored laying in bed all day waiting for Paul to come. They wouldn't let me get up and walk around cause my water had already broken, so it seemed like the day just dragged on and on. If that's the case with Sonya, at least you can help her pass the time and it won't seem so interminable! Bring a deck of cards or Scrabble or something, just be prepared to take a break every now and then when she has a contraction. ;o)
Drive-by posting....
I'm so excited for Sonya, I had to post even though the work on my desk is unbelievable!
It could move pretty fast for Sonya since her water's broken, so I'd go early afternoonish.
She'll prolly deliver sometime around 4:30 or so. And tell her that I said to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take the epidural now ~before~ the pain gets worse.
There's nothing more difficult than sitting perfectly still for someone to jab you in the back with a big needle when you feel as if you're being torn in half from the inside out!
Besides, that way she'll actually be able to enjoy and remember her baby's entrance into the world.
Thanks for the update on Andy. I put him, and his parents, on our Parish Prayer list last week.
Paul was born at 3:30 in the morning,. My water had broken at 3:30 the previous morning, so I hadn't eaten anything that whole day, and I was starving. Right after he was born, SSQ went down to the hospital cafeteria and got me two sausage biscuits and a HUGH cup of coffee! Heavens, it was delicious!
OK ladies... I'm feeling like I should be showering and getting ready to go, if you think visitors would be welcome now. I'll bring cards and a game. :~D
My poor mom never got to eat solid food for like two days after having us, since she had c-sections.
Hair: too soon for beer, yes. Is she breastfeeding? I wonder what beer would do to milk.
Yes! Very common...plus stack that on top of the horrendous experience he's gone through...I feel real bad for him.
Well, when we were babies.... our moms were told a little wine while breastfeeding would settle the baby at night ;~D
I just got a note dated yesterday that Amazon Canada is sending me the ROTK extended version. A day or two early it seems.
Bah, Amazon. It'll take a week to get to you...
I know, but I live in the sticks. Actually, it appears they sent it on Friday. But considering some parts of Canaduh Post are having little strikes, I should get it aboot the time they finish filming the Hobbit. :^)
