The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That was a good price, we got a dvd and vcr combo unit last Christmas, got the extended versions of THE MOVIE parts I and II. I'll be getting Part III, can't believe an additional 50 minutes.

We still have some videos we like to watch. Have to admit we don't tape shows as much as we used to, maybe because there isn't that much to watch. :-)

OT; given the temp situation in thenewhouse, I wonder if Miss Kitty would enjoy a heated kitty pad.

Unreasoning dislike could be viewed as "she doesn't want to admit she likes him"... and it's more words, right?

Yeah, I'm more than caught up. So now I can nag you!

Hmm, I am supposed to be getting together for code planning purposes but I have not yet heard from my partners... wonder what they're up to.

We're thinking a nice BIG TV would be a great family gift! The kids could play Halo 2, and Dance Dance Revolution on it, and I could enjoy ROTK Extended on it, since that's gonna be what I'll ask for from the kids! I'm thinking I'll go for broke and ask them to get me the Deluxe version!! Woo Hoo!

Man... If you get DDR.... I'm definitely going to have to come for a visit. I've always wanted to try making an idiot of myself that way.

I could turn on the heating pad for her but I'm thinking about using it myself. :)

She's curled up in the top of her cat tree right now.

...we got a dvd and vcr combo...

I'm waiting for the budget to bear either--

--a dvd-r/vcr combo, with two-way dubbing capacity--

--or--

--what my cousin/roommate describes as a Tivo card (turns your 'puter into a DV recorder) in combination with a DVD-R drive.

My VHS collection-- and my multiplicitous VHS-C hme movies-- cry out for DVD action.

eww. that sounds nightmarish... and familiar. That is why PE lets me handle all the 'puter stuff anymore.

Have you tried downloading and running AVG? I use both Norton and AVG alternately. AVG picks up stuff Norton doesn't, and you don't have to subscribe to it or buy it to run/update it.

I *think* I am getting my mother's L-shaped desk from my brother next weekend. It was supposed to be yesterday, but well, Salvation Army didn't show to take our existing furniture, and later on it ended up raining anyway.

LOL! This happens to us all the time. It dictates which church we will be attending... PE's church, or mine.

The service at the Lutheran church is at 10:45, whereas the Episcopal church is at 10 am sharp.

I've always wanted to try making an idiot of myself that way.

It's hilarious to watch Clare and her friends. Usually they won't do anything that would even be considered out of the ordinary in front of each other, or more importantly in front of others! But they'll play DDR without another thought!

The one who is REALLY good at it is David! Apparently the folks with whom he shared a house in Pittsburgh played DDR an inordinate amount of time while in school. ;o)

This morning, pastor hit the nail on the head in his sermon. I am not really sure where it fits into his theme on Loyalty Sunday, but... my ears perked up at his statements.

"Don't put your faith into a person or a place, they will pass away. Even as I will pass away...

Mohammed is a false messiah....

The area where Islam rules used to be Christian...."

Interesting.

When we got our vcr the young salesman said we needed 'gold cables' when I asked why, 'for the big screen tv hookups or for any new tvs' well, I considered 1992 to be relatively new for a tv, he then said the cables that came with the unit would be fine. So I guess you should plan on getting new cables. :-)

Which I take to mean you can transfer tapes to discs, that would be cool.

I hope to find a few of our favorites on disc, like Zulu; Bladerunner; Wind & the Lion; Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last of the Mohicans....

*sigh* Still under a thousand words. I could force myself to buckle down, but I don't want to quite yet. Probably by eight thirty or so I'll start the Flylady writing method...set my watch for fifteen minute stints and just write for that amount of time straight - no goofing off, no checking e-mail, no distractions allowed. Usually good for 500 words or so if I'm good.

But goofing off is fun, too.

For example, I figured out how to get the infrared on my laptop working with the Pocket PC, and have a nice Faramir picture as my background...
