The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, it seems to be better now. But I still have issues to resolve with Comcast...

I haven't had any trouble with ComCast out here... hmm. Wonder if it's just regional differences, or what. Maybe they hate you.

I don't think it's exclusively Comcast. But I have a lot of trouble with pop-ups and there's a virus or something of somekind I can't get rid of.

What happened this time is that uninstalling Firefox made it impossible for me to open Comcast without telling it to go to IE every time, even when I check the box for "always use this program."

What anti-spyware programs are you using? I might be able to recommend some that you're not running... and if you can find the file that hosts the virus, the way to get rid of it is to boot in safe mode, delete the file, and then delete it from the Trash. Often you can't delete a virus in normal running mode.

I run Adware and Spybot pretty regularly. And I've got McAfee Anti-Virus - although that's been since I've had problems. It tells me there are no infected files, but it does give a list of potential problems that I'm unable to delete.

I heave heard people praise Spysweeper as being able to find series problems, but that you have to be careful because it will flag valid registry entries as virii.

No files, huh? That makes it hard... I would recommend using AVG, but AVG and McAfee don't like each other and McAfee's better if you only use one.

Heh. And you're wise. You should probably go to bed soon and leave me here alone, as usual. Maybe I'll manage to figure out what I'm trying to do with this scene... not likely, though.

Hah! A valid reason to use the phrase "the famous alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric" in my story, without even trying! I love allusions.

Good Morning ALL; Beautiful Sunday here. Coffee being consumed in vast quatities from our new brewer. hmmmm.

Gypsy girl is stretched out on the doggie bed, casting an eye toward us, "I wonder if they realize they haven't taken me for my walk yet."

Good morning...

I don't feel rested! I am sore and achy from all this manual labor of digging trenches and burning bonfires... I may not be very productive today. :~)

Although, ( and I may get burned for this) I have yet to see ROTK.... I've got the DVD, but have no player. I was going to preview it before letting 7yo watch it - the Pellenor Fields, I'm told, was even bigger than Helm's Deep...

Now this is troubling.... Where's your drive and motivation? You might as well not bother with the theatrical now... the extended is coming soon.

I'll with-hold comment for now on the Rankin Bass... It does have great songs in it.... not great in the sense they were ~good~ mind you. ;~D

So HD, I'll just buy it next time - I won the DVD as a door prize...

One thing to remember about the R-B version: it was an all-star cast of voice talent that just doesn't exist anymore, all culled from the Golden Age of Animation.

Good morning again!

The Heathen Virus has stricken the household...church starts at 9:30 and nobody looked at a clock until 9:17...

Travel time is 8-10 minutes under favorable conditions...and this particular Ex-GI is out of practice in the art of "gearing up" in under 3.

Oh well. I shall follow the advice in my tag:

Well, as all the good people are away at church right now... I'd say the thread is a safe harbor for heathens at the moment.
