The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

And I suppose you'll take Luke to SpongeBob. Shudder. Boy am I glad I won't be around for that one.

It's very funny how many of my friends admit to really liking kids' movies. Some kids' movies. Not much Disney except for "The Emperor's New Groove". I should host a "PG Movie Night" sometime.

(Did you read chapter one, then?)

I'm up to chapter 5 so I'll definitely get more up today or tomorrow.

Let's see. You need a plot infusion. Could someone... leave a baby on her doorstep, or a friend get falsely accused of embezzling, or something?

Good morning!!! Is it still morning!!!???

I've been VERY busy! Catching up on the laundry (gets behind when the weather is rainy) and washing the dishes (by hand...we're outta dish washer detergent and don't have a way to get any (too chilly to walk to the store.)

I'm all caught up except for one load of darks that gets hung up to dry in the enclosed porch (so they won't fade in the sunshine.)

Just finished with Joshua's school for the week...yahoo! It's rewind day!! Matthew's taking a math test and I need a cattle prod to keep him focused (JK!!!!)

Matthew missed 3 problems on his Latin test yesterday...still he made the highest grade in the class! (It was a long test...and he said one kid missed 15!)

Life is vey good!

Hello, nice to see you!

Yes... it will be the weekend... and although I have homework and projects, it's still going to be nice to relax a little.

Heh...those are a bit dramatic. But something like that, I guess! Either that or I just skip ahead...it's a journal, after all. Rather than drag things out day by day, I could have her not write for a month or so and then do a lot of catching up. Maybe.

I thought about having her car break down and the nice guy coming to the rescue, but I've already had a lot of coincidences happen in the last few days of her life...too many already. Couldn't add yet another without it being nothing short of ridiculous.

Yes, I finished chapter one of your story...

That could work. Or you could give her a cold and let her ramble on in a cold-med induced state for pages and pages and pages. Or... lessee... she could win the lottery or... join an internet board and lose all social life...

Rambling works. Heh...just have to find suitable rambling subjects.

Yesterday I had about 500 words worth of rambling about overly dramatic authors...before that it was imagining background stories for people she's seen. Dunno what I could do next, but maybe it'll come to me if I just keep writing.

Thank goodness we aren't doing any editing!

Yeah, edit month is March.

I'm not sure I'll finish the story this month - it's kind of looking like it might take more than 50k. Or considerably less, but... argh.

I'm worrying about finishing the other story in time. I'm about two thirds of the way done, but really...I'll have three weeks to finish it, tops. And I'd kind of hoped to at least do a vey quick editing jobbie on it.

And if I want to print it out and do some sort of binding with it, I need to be done even earlier.

I know! Your character starts writing a novel in her diary. It's the same story you're writing. Then you can use it both places.

Heh...you know, I actually thought of that...she even just purchased a nice desk to sit at for writing.

But I think it'd be cheating, since I started it before NaNo!

Ugh...my glasses are driving me crazy these past few days. I think I have a scratch that is small, but right in my field of vision. I've cleaned and cleaned and cleaned them, and they still bother me.

I'm not sure it would be cheating, since your main story would still be the diary. If you're allowed to quote whole poems, why not be allowed to have a character write a story which you've started?

My monitor is giving me a headache. I need a flatscreen like the other guys...

It was so nuts they dropped their whole itinerary of speakers and a planned moment of silence (Ha!) and just buried him without ceremony.

A fitting end for a thug.

I can't even imagine something like that happening here!

Compare that with the outpouring of love and respect for President Reagan. People just stopped on the side of the road, got out of their cars, and stood silently in homage of a great man.

Can HE take Luke?

You're allowed to quote poems? Kewl. I put in one of my old lousy poems, but I felt guilty and figured on writing enough words that I didn't need to count those.

If I could really do that - include my other story, that is - it could solve a lot of problems. I might just do that.

Mmmm...flatscreen. My boss has a nice one. I have a hugh monitor, so I can't really complain...but flat screens are nice!

My monitor is also hugh. And maybe it's the fluorescent lights that bug me...

I say, do it, girl. It's not cheating, it's smart. Just don't drop the other plot entirely.

Maybe her friend the nice oddball could critique for her?
