Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

As it stands now we will leave here on the 18th and fly to Ft. Dix NJ. From there we will pick up a commercial flight to SEA-TAC. The only hang up now with that plan is they arent sure what they are gonna do with 22 rifles when they get on a commercial flight. I will continue to keep you updatedd as info comes to me. Looking at the news it looks like we got out of Mosul at a good time. See ya soon.

I'm watching the "funeral" for Arafat. No sense of civil decorum to be seen.

Good morning! Woo-hoo, it's Friday!
OT and 2J, you'd find this interesting...recently someone started a little "Irish" pub and grill on the edge of town (it's really tiny, but you do what ya can), and last week Bilbo asked them if we could start a session there. They had no idea what a session was, but said that we could come down if we wanted to. Last night was the first night. It had high and low points, mostly because the Monday night group showed up and they can't or aren't willing to play things at even a bouncy speed, and some of them aren't always in tune or on rhythm. I guess it's just the beginning factor, but honestly, if you can't at least play in the right timing with others at least on the slow tunes, you should listen for a bit...IMO. We're supposed to be playing together, not just sort of at the same time. And I've done my share of listening. But anyway...some of us stayed just a bit later, and a woman who is a REALLY good mandolinist of the style I most enjoy was there, so me and Jim and Bilbo played with her for half an hour or more, just saying, "Hey, do you know...?" and playing that tune. It was great!
So...we don't have an officialy scheduled "next time", but I think it could happen. Hope so!
But...for the NaNoers...that's why I didn't get much writing in. And why I'm tired today, 'cause I stayed up TRYING to get writing in.

I'm kinda curious about what kind of craziness is going on, but don't have TV.
And maybe I'm better off not seeing!

The Arafat thing was nuts..... been watching while I had my first coffee.
It was so crazy then the helicopters landed that they fought the crowd an hour just trying to get the casket to the grave site. I was watching and it seemed for awhile the crowd actually got the casket away from the security guys and passed it around. I was half expecting him to get dumped onto the ground. Chaos, automatic weapons fire in the air, people grabbing at the casket and the flag that was originally on it was lost a few times.
It was so nuts they dropped their whole itinerary of speakers and a planned moment of silence (Ha!) and just buried him without ceremony.

Heh, sounds like no more than he deserved. Personally, I'd have dropped his carcass into the sea on the way over from Paris.
Morning all! Oh, it's so nice to have a computer again.
