How to Catch the Be-headers
First appearing here | 9/23/04 | Joe Moody

Flash-column by Joe Moody

This idea may sound expensive, but more expensive is the cost of losing the War on Terror. The U. S military should supply every contractor and civilian working in Iraq with a covert GPS device.

Perhaps the device could be implanted within an ordinary object that someone would normally carry, such as a camera. The military would know exactly who has each device, so if someone is kidnapped, the military could easily track the person down.

The CIA could even recruit undercover agents pretending to the U.S. contractors to frequent dangerous areas, they could have the device on them at all times.

If such a method was carried out correctly, we could catch the big rotten fish, Aimen Al-Zwahari, who continues to allude to capture while personally be-heading innocent Americans on video.

We need to out-think them, bombs can only do so much!

Can;t those things be implanted under the skin? I had hoped (foolish of me) that Dan Rather might have been "implanted" with one of those when he went to Iraq to interview Saddam.

But if we can track them using these devices, they would likely also be detectable by the terrorists.

Where are the human shields when you need them?

Yes, implant them under the skin somewhere undetectable. I wish that we would do something like this, it could save a lot of lives and catch some bad people.

I say give them some guns!!!
Give them some way of defending themselves,,a couple of grenades, etc...

If the kidnappers know the contractors are armed,,,they may be less inclined to even approach them.

That service has been available for pets for some time now and has recently been made available for parents to implant on their kids. Or perhaps still earlier, didn't Tim McVeigh claim the army had implanted a chip in his butt-tocks?

A caller suggested that very thing on Bill Bennett's "Morning in America" show today. It makes perfect sense. And, no, it's not like the 666 mark as some would suggest that it would be.

Do the terrorists have the technology?

I'm not sure. But if they were to get their hands on this technology (always a possibility), it would render the implants useless.

All true, but none of these devices broadcasts its location. The devices provide ID to a person (or device) that posesses the object.

I gave this suggestion to the CIA and the FBI more than a month ago. No reply. Also, remember THEY read this stuff too!

It would have to be surgically implanted. You think they won't take the person's camera/purse, clothes, etc. away? You think they won't do a body cavity search?

This could work. Who cares if they could detect them. By the time they figured out why so many of them were being killed inside their Mosques we would of already killed their top leaders.

Nope. First, the terrorists would have to have the equipment. Most of the guys catching and beheading folks are barely literate (Iraq continues to have a low literacy rate). Also, the transponder could operate on a classified frequency and use an encrypted transmission. The beheaders are barely literate thugs who are equipped with AK-47s and RPGs, not with elint equipment. These guys are different from the planners and implementors of the 9/11/2001 assault.
