The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Posted on 09/02/2004 2:18:28 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

OT; Nall is an arterial roadway, the traffic is steady but the speeds are relatively low. I use it quite a bit when I'm that side of town instead of the Interstates. I like the neighborhoods over there. I'll say the Stone CC looked pretty nice. I've used the realestate websites and links from cities when doing 'replacement housing' studies at work; amazing the difference in housing prices around the states for essentially the same home type.

...It's time for you to become a snob...if you do have to interact with them, keep your expression bland and a little sardonic...treat them like five-year-olds...don't really listen and throw in a dismissive, "I'm sure that's very nice," every now and then.

Have you been advising every single woman I've interacted with in my entire life, or just the pretty ones?

:) Just kidding. It only seems that way sometimes.

When I was your age, I hit on the teachers. Phooey on the students.

Heh...considering my boss is my teacher, I prolly shouldn't do that. ;-)

But you and lil are right. Who cares? It'll be a fun class, and I should get as much out of it as I can and ignore all the other students if that's what it takes.

Hard not to feel a BIT self conscious, though, bein' the only gal. Though...thinking back, it's been that way maybe most of the time. Just aren't that many gals in the computer field, even in basic support roles. Don't know why...for the most part, PC support is a matter of a little experience and a lot of common sense.

Haven't you noticed how all those meteorology dudes have thinning/receding/no hair? Especially those senior Phd meteorology hurricane dudes from the National Weather Service?

Heh...it IS true for a lot of 'em. Not all, though. Just saw one of the local guys at the store as I was comin' home - we've played music with him sometimes - and he doesn't have any problems there.

But...for the most part, you may be right!

Hm...wonder what causes that?

That was the first thought that flashed into my head.

It's gonna be stuck there for awhile, I'm afraid.

Just from the pictures, I'd say the stone CC is my favorite structure so far. I'll have to see if the back yard is sunny enough for a garden and if the traffic noise is too much.

I like the yard description of the fixer-upper so I figured I'd at least take a look and see how much fixing up and what type of fixing up it'll need....and if I'm up to it.

Trying to stay away from properties that require flood insurance.

Osage, I got out my pitcher pump this afternoon, I figure you are someone that knows what that is.

I'll need it to get water, if we lose electricity.

Although I think the leather parts are ruined, so it'll be useless 'til I can get those replaced. I better do that before Ivan gets here.

All the songs we’ve sung,
Whistled strummed and hummed
Occasionally bring the earworm
Torment the mind, and fill the brain… we can use more cowbell
Come on baby… don't fear the earworm
Sam, play it again… don't fear the earworm
It may make you cry… but don't fear the earworm
Here in Margaritaville!

And with that last line, a new earworm is born.

I hear alot of real loud laughter coming from next door.
They only put up a couple shutters and allowed as how some more beer could help them decide whether to finish the job.

Believe they've decided, probably correctly, that the storm will go ashore north of here.

In a strange way, hurricanes produce a carnival atmosphere.
Even animals act inappropriately in the path of an approaching storm.

Sam, well, some leather dressing might help unless it has hit the dry powdery stage. Gasket material might be an acceptable substitue. Inner tube?

A ready source of tanned leather might be hard to find on short notice.
