The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Man, that was weird.

Ever see "Saikano"? About the most girly end-of-the-world anime ever. Can't believe I nearly cried.

But the ending song was really, really lovely. I'm going to have it in my head for days. "Sayonara, ishintii hito"...

Woot, we can use more members for AnimeMoot! Last time we watched all of Escaflowne. Wonder what we can get in this time... grin... maybe I should bring Fruits Basket.

I bought that original Japanese version DVD of Saikano in Tokyo last June (mainly because it was one of the few that had English subtitles). Anime is much more expensive over there. Now I have the first couple on American version DVDs. It is pretty good over all I think... it is one of those ones where the Japanese attitudes toward war and conflict start to bug me in places. Most anime that is not a big factor but in some it really bugs the heck out of me and I can't watch those shows. Saikano is not so bad that way though.

Ok, but I'm supposed to be living la vida loca here...

Sadly, all the geeks I've met so far who are dateable are either Democrats, or married. Bah, humbug. I've got to get to anime club.

And I'd be such an easy date, too! Do I want to see the new action movie, or the chick flick? Go to the anime con, or shop for shoes? Heck, my idea of fun is watching the latest episode of Samurai7 download...

No, the attitude wasn't too bad - they seemed to concede that there are things worth fighting for, even if it's hopeless and ends up blowing up the world.

And the romance worked, more or less. It's not in my top five, but it's a nice change of pace. Now... tomorrow I start into Full Moon wo Sagashite seriously, I got the whole series off a co-worker.

Full Moon rules. Yeah that is how I think of Saikano. Not a top fav but a nice pace change. The story is well told and well paced and the animation is high level. Right now I am working my way thought Touch. A nice old school series that has me hooked. Also a recent favorite is Samurai Chamloo. A nice Action/Comedy mix.

Wimps!

Seriously.... I already put stickers on my truck, and I ~do~ have to spend a couple days in Seattle next month. It already occurred to me that I might have acted rashly!

That's sweet of you. I'm sure the right guy will come along sometime, but it's hard to spend Friday nights alone sometimes.

If you come, bring anime! We can always just have a "sampler", though that's hard on people like Rosie who doesn't have the access I do. Hope you show up... it was homeschool central last time! Most of the kiddoes, and a lot of us younger folk, were or are homeschooled.

I just read about the flooding in Richmond! Stay safe! Gotta e-mail SSQ's nephew to see if his family is OK.

Laura Branigan was born on July 3, 1957,

I didn't know she was born on my birthday! Looks like she was born on the same day and year as Corin!

Only their left? Bah! BAH, I tell you. A pittance!

How 'bout just a motion-sensor floodlight?

Mom's got one on the side of the house...if I was up to no good and that thing came on, my first impulse would be to beat a hasty retreat...OTOH, if it just comes on because of a bird or a gopher, then at least it doesn't make noise.

Morning everyone.

At least by Friday, we should know where Frances is headed.
This morning's update on her track and intensity is pretty similar to last night's.

I thought about that... It's way out in the pasture, but with some extension cords it'd work. It's way our of range of the hose. (for the motion sensor deer-sprinkler idea LF mentioned)
