Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Hill and water under sky
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I notice one volume is titled "Kristin Lavransdatter: The Bridal Wreath, The Mistress of Husaby/The Cross" while there are also separate volumes titled "The Bridal Wreath", etc. Is there a certain one I'm supposed to read first? Um...read them in the order that they are in the book that has all in one. I just borrowed the big book.

I went and got the big book today. It was kind of funny because when I got it the librarian said, "I'm going to read that book once before I die!" Not sure exactly what she meant by that, but she mentioned she was full-blooded Norwegian, so I guess it had something to do with that--maybe Norwegians around here feel obligated to read it or something, I dunno, LOL!

I'll trade you slugs for aphids...I think. Don't have a clue how to get rid of those things! They're attacking the runner beans, though they actually seem to be dwindling compared to earlier this summer.
I have actual beans now, too! Cool!

Ribbit
One summer many, many moons ago we had this toad that would come up to the sliding glass door every night to catch bugs. He'd stare into the living room just like the neighbor dog would. Hehehe...it was like the neighbor dog turned into a toad at night.

You can get 'em some slug bait
or some diatimaceous...stuff
or sprinkle some salt on 'em
or leave out some beer in a shallow dish...but that would be a waste of beer.

I'm curious what yer refering to, but I'm not a bit electronics guy. I can tell ya' how many thousands of amps yer building will need at 480 volts, however.

Good suggestions, LSA uses Cory Snail and Slug Death (love that name).
If you don't want to use beer, you could always use 'coors'. Nothing like an aluminum pie plate filled to rim with dead slugs to make you want to lurch or reach for the butter and garlic.
For the holistic types amongst us, dried sweetgum balls placed all around the plant beds will keep most of the nasty critters at bay. Does tend remind you to always wear shoes when tending the plants though.

One time Mom wanted to put beer out for the slugs eating her petunias. Yeah right. A keg party for slugs!

My beans are shooting up now, too--the stalks are getting tall! Reminds me of Jack and the Beanstalk when I look at them :)
