The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

How'd I manage to miss that one? :) Okay, I'm looking it up in my "Science Fiction Illustrated Encyclopedia" now, and sure enough, it's listed on the page after the "Thunderbirds" :)

"Captain Scarlet and the Mysterions: 1968. In this further SuperMarionation series, the inhabitants of Mars--the Mysterions--misinterpret Earth's first landing there as an invasion. They attempt to infiltrate and eventually destroy the threat by converting two top Earth agents into Mysterion Fifth Columnists. In the case of Captain Black they succeed, and he becomes the series' villian--opposed by the Mysterions' failed conversion, the now immortal Captain Scarlet."

Sounds cool!

BTW, "The Thunderbirds" animation always kinda scared me--looked *too* weird.

Yeah Thunderbirds were kinda freaky looking. I see they've made a live action movie based on it though.

The Mars explorers had a Human/Minbari moment and all hell breaks loose!

BTW they had to make the heads big to accommodate the puppetry stuff. By the time Captain Scarlet came along the mechanical stuff was miniaturized enough to give them normal heads.

What's the "Genesis War"?

I dunno, is that the one where Kirk faced Khan? Give me some more context?

ROFL! It's mentioned at the beginning of SP Episode 11 while they're travelling through this underground cavern that's kinda like a mini-Moria.

Here's the dialogue:

Pacifica: Did humans make this?

Shannon: Could be humans or the race of evil. Either way, it must be from before the Genesis War.

Oh, okay, that explains it. I guess puppet technology was still in its infancy then--this was before the Kroffts and the Muppets.

That "Thunderbirds" live action movie scares me, too--doesn't look like it has much to do with the original.

Blast those first-contact foul-ups!

Oh, good evening.

Well the vee-hicles look similar and everybody runs around yelling "Thunderbirds are go!" Isn't that close enough? :)

I used fresh mushrooms and cooked them with the other veggies. I eat two when I have them for breakfast!

Yeah those first contact thingies can be a bit tricky. When will aliens learn that you don't point things at humans?

Ah, Scrapped Princess. That was the big war that started their society off on the track it is now, rather than the seemingly technologically-advanced society they have now. World War IV, maybe.

When it rains it pours.

I'm requesting your love and prayers once again. My mother just called. Her mother has just been taken into hospice for a failing heart. Grandma is 96 and has lived a full and amazing life. My father in his declining years became a special friend, a true son, to her and his passing was especially heartbreaking for her. I guess Grandma decided it was finally her time. Please pray for my grandma that she may slip away in her sleep, and for my mother that she may have strength.

Thanks and my love to you all.

One of the episodes of the "Year Zero" KTMA season of MST3K was "Revenge of the Mysterons", a movie made from 4 of the Captain Scarlet eps strung together. Unfortunately, no copy of this MST3K episode is known to exist...

No, they have to have big heads to make it "Thunderbirds" :)

Probably about the time humans learn to stop shooting first and asking questions later.... ;)
