Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Tree and flower and leaf and grass
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I was the ONLY one who thought that might be better, and was called stupid, illogical, etc. *sigh*Funny.... at my family table I am always the dumbest one there too... But last weekend Dad actually remembered three or four occasions when I was right... (evidently they left a mark)

But last weekend Dad actually remembered three or four occasions when I was right... That just falls under the category of "She's a new bride. Humor her..."

Heh, sounds like a great plan to me.
You know, one could almost stay anywhere in the country, with another Hobbit Holer.

Just remember, the algebra teacher at the high school is infinitely more able to teach your child by virtue of those education classes she took ten years ago. Oh, and the "Math for Ed Majors" class she got a C in...That's a pretty broad brush you're painting with there. You should know that my father is a public school math teacher... and he was a math minor in college... and every few years he takes more summer classes to keep his skills current... and in fact the rest of my immediate family (all of them!) were "Ed Majors" and are now teachers too... and my brother has taught the "Math for Ed Majors" class... and is the head of the math department... Won't even go into how many aunts/uncles/cousins/grandparents are/were teachers too... Many teachers do specialize in the subject they teach.

I know, only 90% of the ed majors I know were morons. The other ten percent were bright, inspired, and wanted to make a difference.
Unfortunately, the 10% can't quite make up for the rest.

We give them out as simple tokens of appreciation, like a handshake. Yet our finest fighting forces consider them awards to be given out for special achievements. That is just so awesome!

Oh, and I honestly believe that teachers should not be allowed to teach in a subject where they haven't earned, say, the equivalent of a minor. Football coaches teaching math is a very bad idea. And if they'd make them take a few less ed classes, and a few more in their area, that would be good.
I knew one girl who was getting an ed degree with a math and a Spanish minor, because that's what she wanted to teach. She'll be brilliant, wherever she is. But most of them bragged about how easy their ed classes were... and how many nights they were out partying.
