Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Tree and flower and leaf and grass
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Thank goodness my mom never tried Rod and Staff. But then, we were the liberal homeschoolers. No goat, no "uniforms" (you know that denim jumper with long hair look?), and by the time I was twelve, my reading list was mostly science fiction...
Some of my peers would disapprove of me, I ought to be marrying a missionary and heading to Africa, after all.

From personal experience, Saxon Algebra's good too. I didn't mean to imply it wasn't. Saxon may be vey good at Algebra. Corin is not.
All I'm really saying is that there will come a time with math and science that I'll have to have someone else step in (that goes for the Mrs. too).
We can handle the early years. I'm even thinking of starting Spanish with him. But some stuff will be beyond our abilities to teach. And hopefully we'll recognize that when we get to that point.

He changed his mind when their offer finally reached $300,000. I'm always in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Mom wasn't good at Algebra either. At that level, Saxon offers solution guides - shows how you get the answer. And Saxon is so self-taught. Don't rule yourself out right away.

Sad news. We've lost a Richmond area FReeper.
sultan88 has passed away.

Just remember, the algebra teacher at the high school is infinitely more able to teach your child by virtue of those education classes she took ten years ago. Oh, and the "Math for Ed Majors" class she got a C in...
(mostly kidding...)

Reminds me of my work day...which, hopefully, will not approach the horror of some of the work days I've read about around here in the last week.
But then, it's pot-luck, you go into work and yer takes yer chances. Last night we were walking in large park at sunset, and it was so gorgeous with amber waves of...grass, and a pink and blue sky -- it was stunning. And I realized why we are so dumb at work, doing stupid things and hating it all the time: We'd do stupid things and hate it if we were in jail too! And compared to walking in nature, the modern office (particularly a government office) is a pretty darn good comparison to a jail.

I'd be thinkin' more along the lines of a homeschool co-op like where the Mrs. teaches.
But your point (however snidely offered) is well taken. ;-)

Ironically there are many places within our organization where I could get out and enjoy nature. I just don't get to because my job is "too important."
What a crock.

Homeschool co-ops are wonderful things. It sounds like you've got a great one, locally. Community colleges are also great things.

Hee, I've known way too many ed majors to have much respect for their qualifications. They may be wonderful people, but most of them - well, if I have kids, they'll see the inside of a government school building over my dead body.

She's from the Tacoma area, BTW. So if they DO get married...I'll have to visit the WA Hobbit Hole contingent while we're out there...She wouldn't come to Tacoma for my wedding..... LOL!
Glad it's working it's way through the week and she seems nice!
