Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Terrible that you have to work tonight. Thought about retirement? :-)

Now that go OUTSIDE to smoke - I won't rant cause you already are doing that quietly to yourself. :-)

I got another email today from another recipient of our Hobbit Hole knives. He's a USAF Master Sergeant, currently stationed in a country that cannot be named. Here's his email.

-------------------

Rick,

A couple people over here noticed the knife you gave me, and wanted to know how they might go about getting one? Or a few to pass out to deserving young troops?

If you can get me four, that'd be great: one each for Airman, NCO, Sr NCO and Jr Officer of the Month Award winners.

Thank you. And send thanks to the rest of the Hobbit Hole gang.

------------------

Now that I think of it, our Hobbit Hole knives are both aptly designed, and named. Small, unassuming, often unnoticed. Yet they have a hidden strength, and can perform mighty deeds when called upon.

We give them out as simple tokens of appreciation, like a handshake. Yet our finest fighting forces consider them awards to be given out for special achievements.

[sniff]

I caught the last few minutes of it. It looked like it was pretty funny!--too bad I missed the first part.

Smoking outside....don't I know it.

Worse yet, ADP makes the smokers walk all the way out to the corner of the parking lot, in this miserable heat, just because they don't want us to smoke within 20 feet of the front doors. They put an ashtray way out there for us. How generous.

Even though there is an ashtray not 10 feet from the doors anyway, we're not allowed to use it. Go figure!

We've got the same situation at work Ruthy. An ashtray right by the front door but we can't smoke there. We have to go out to the back patio that nobody uses. It's on the north side of the building so VEY cold in the winter time - the north wind cuts right through!

Fortunately, I have a boss that smokes too. When there are no students or deans in the building we can go in the weld shop and he turns on the big exhaust fans to keep it from smelling too much like smoke. But, that's only for the part of the day when there aren't classes in there!
