...Then why don't they just call him and ask him if he is Aussie Bloke?????

Good question. I am wondering that too. So far, no one has been able to confirm he has been contacted. My attempts, SO FAR, have failed. I'll keep trying though.

The end of the world scenario is a deep dish of chocolate ice cream to them.

Sorta like a Hot Fudge Sundae

Lucifer's Hammer is the story of two amateur astronomers discovering the existence of a very large comet that promises to pass very close to Earth. Tim Hamner, a wealthy manufacturer who has a private observatory in the Sierras, and Gavin Brown, an Iowa schoolboy who ground his own lenses for his homemade telescope, are credited with near-simultaneous sighting of the comet. As the story progresses, the Hamner-Brown comet becomes the subject of a network news series and brings a U.S. Senator, Arthur Jellison, on board with proposals to fund a space mission for studying the comet. The mission turns into a joint US-USSR (remember them?) effort using leftover Apollo and Soyuz hardware (pre-Shuttle times, obviously). Further study shows a very close pass coming, maybe even a collision, and as the news gets out, a new religious cult, the Comet Wardens, starts up in Southern California. Their leader dubs the comet "The Hammer of God", much to Hamner's consternation, and Hammer Fever is on!

Scientists are drawn in for help on the network documentaries, and this leads to some black-comedic dialogue as some Jet Propulsion Laboratory people try to explain the possible effects of a collision:

"When the mass is above a certain size, it stops being important whether Earth has an atmosphere or not."

"Except to us," Forrester said, deadpan.

Sharps paused a second, then laughed... "What we need is a good analogy. Um..." Sharps' brow furrowed.

"Hot fudge sundae," said Forrester.

"Hah?"

Forrester's grin was wide through his beard. "A cubic mile of hot fudge sundae. Cometary speeds."

---------

Besides the obvious comparison from the Book, Lucifer's Hammer, The strike was on Tuesday, called "Hot Fudge Tuesday" in the book. It was in June(5th if I recall), but the teasers and other events leading up to the hit almost fit the script exactly as presented by AB.

Can anyone tell me who the "PTB" is? I don't recognize that term, and don't know to whom it is referring.

PTB = Powers that be

When was the last time you heard of SEVEN carriers and all their support ships heading at at ONCE?

Early December, 1941?

But never mind that. More worrisome is the answer to the following question: How many aircraft carriers in the world didn't go anywhere recently?

Huh?
Huh?
Huh?

I've always said that if there is a nuclear attack in my area with no time to get out of the downwind, while everyone else is stuck on the highways waiting to die a slow death from the inevitable radiation poisoning, I'll be the lone person driving to ground zero.

Same with a meteor strike.

"The Navy Wednesday began surging more than half the fleet to sea - something it hasn't done since the beginning of the war in Iraq. The exercise is designed to test the Navy's new way of thinking - making sure ships are ready to go more of the time. In all, seven carrier strike groups will leave. Wednesday, it was the USS Harry S Truman's turn to leave Norfolk."

The US is expecting to be attacked by terrorist any time from now to just before the election. The ships being at sea makes them a much tougher target. They are most vulnerable in port.

Didn't go anywhere? As if to say, did not go on maneuvers at all?

Is that what you mean?

Thank you for your rational input and hard work on this thread's subject. Could you please explain exactly how it is that if we will be passing into a dust cloud that the sun will become "whiter" while the moon becomes red?

If the moon is to shine red, that means the dust cloud is not hydrogen, but heavy elements. If it is heavy elements, then the sun would not shine more brightly.

I remember reading that the Mily Way is currently colliding with a much smaller minor galaxy (can't remember the details but will look it up). If our arm of the galaxy is involved in the collision, then there could be some merit to speculation on this event. Personally, I agree with another poster that if it's going to happen, then it's time to get out the lawn chairs and watch the show.

To me, AB's constant references to satellites falling from the sky and spreading radiation all over shows the true agenda: environazi who also dislikes the US intensely since Skylab. No to mention the timing of this - it could almost be an internet based trailer for Day After Tomorrow.

Never underestimate the left's willingness to go to any length to subjugate the world to their rule. Fear is their most often used tool, and making the ignorant among us fearful is what has kept them alive since the beginning of man's existence.

hehe . . it may not be the end of the world for all of us, but it could be for certain Islamic mujahadeen.

We are spending a lot of money on the military right now. It seems passing odd that we would put seven carriers to sea just to see if we can do it. I'm with you on this one. The "impact" is probably a cover story.

I also think Tenet resigning means the CIA could not manage to topple the ayatollahs in Iran, and we will go to war to prevent them having the bomb - or more than a handful.

Here, here. Hasn't there been several discoveries over the past several years by amateur astronomers of comets, meteors, etc? To think that "Dr. Gartrell" is one of only a few people with this information, and several folks with specifics direct you to their web-site, where they try mightily to sell you merchandise is one red-flag that goes up.

Additionally as reported at post 177:

"A senior Australian Physicist/Astronomer began revealing -- first anonymously and now publicly -- that his government Physics/Astronomy team had discovered -- some 20 years ago -- that a HUGE Outer Space debris cloud/field is headed toward us and will arrive on June 8/9, 2004 -- along with 3 heavy objects that they have believed for 10 years will most certainly strike the earth causing massive upheavals... "

has anyone on his "government Physics/Astronomy" team commented on these events? No? Yes? Has it been just Dr. Gartell providing details?

It's more probable, IMO, that some sort of terror attack is apt to take place than the event as outlined by "Dr. Gartrell".

Has this Dr. Gartrell been on Coast-To-Coast AM? What better way to educate the public?

I suppose it is human nature to want to tell other humans "secrets". Dr. Gartrell implies that many nations know of the events he predicts for early June. You would think that someone, ANYONE, would have spilled the beans by now, in an era where even the smallest details in regards to are blasted onto the network and cable TV news channels. The fact that there is nothing being mentioned about Dr. Gartrell's claims means either that he is a kook, or that anyone who knows more about this matter has been "silenced". Geesh...

Keep your eyes on Matt Drudge and Fox News.

Bush is doing PR work with the skeptics in France. Not sure how much good that will do or if even there will be an escaltaion to Iran, Syria, and Lebanon.

Even Saudi Arabia is not exempt.

Here's the complete response from the good doctor who, BTW, is a Christian:

Could be - never say never, but I VERY VERY seriously doubt it. There's no way to investigate the evidence. Aussie Bloke has an inside track on super top secret stuff and we're supposed to believe him!!!! Give me a break. Reminds me of the lengths (and depths) to which some "Christians" will go to "prove" a point. Twenty five years or so ago a man wrote a Christian book which I still have somewhere. In it he claimed that NASA had run their computers back in time and proved that Joshua's long day had really occurred. Astrodynamics not withstanding, e-mails are still circulating on this one. The internet has quite a lot on debunking the whole farce.

There is an extensive photographic program to detect "Earth crossing" asteroids. Photos of the sky are taken essentially every night. Then computers compare the points of light with known stars. Anything moving with respect to the stars is either an asteroid or a comet. Once something is detected, repeated measurements allow its trajectory to be "estimated." Predicting a "sure Earth hit" is impossible, it is done probabilistically. Nothing with any significant probability of hitting has been found. On the other hand, you probably have heard that several "smaller" asteroids (100s of m) have passed by the Earth at less-than-moon distances in the last few years.
