Graphic by Billie Remember to Salute
A thousand flags are held by men, A thousand stories of back when, The warriors clashed neath battered rag. On closer view, it was their flag.
The flag stood always at the front, When battle came, it took the brunt, And though the bullets rent and tore, The flag would never shirk from war.
Every flag, and every color, Holds a meaning, all of valor. Men who stand in salutation, Are the fabric of our nation.
And the flag that fills their eyes, Along with tears that might arise, Show the heart that forges on, Til the victory has been won.
Stand and honor passing glory, Remember well the honored story. The flag deserves salute and then, Remember to salute the men.

I posted this at the Finest and wanted to post it here for all of the Poetry and Potpourri FRiends. A Blessed and safe Memorial Day Holiday to you all:
Staff Sergeant Richard A. Fitts
I never knew you But I will always remember you. You were part of the MIA list A silver bracelet upon my wrist Bearing your name and rank. I never had the chance to thank You and all of the rest Who sacrificed all while doing their best To ensure freedom for those like me. Because of you today we are free.
So instead I vow to pray For your soul and the others each day. I am grateful to all women and men Who served our country and often Made sacrifices huge and small. I thank our military for them all.
Staff Sergeant Fitts you gave your life And the hurt cut like a knife For the family you left behind. They prayed for your remains to find. Many years later their prayers were heard, Their grief indescribable by words. One thing is true, though perhaps understated Your sacrifice will always be greatly appreciated.

That was wonderful and brought tears to my eyes! I also wore one of the MIA bracelets, but fortunately, mine came home safe and sound! I will never forget seeing him get off the plane. I had such a connection to him after wearing his name on my arm for so long!
Beautiful tribute to your own hero! Thanks for sharing it!

Meek, the pictures you posted of our wonderful national treasure Bob Hope were so great! Even better to have some with JFK since they both shared the same birthday. Several Heroes in those pictures, Ronald Reagan, JFK, and Bob Hope. Thanks for the memories Meek! :-)

What a beautiful tribute you posted for those who have lost loved ones. The Holy Spirit is indeed the comforter. I remember my dad's services. I didn't think I could make it through it, but a dear Christian lady came by our house before it began, and she prayed for me that the Holy Spirit would give me peace and comfort. I cannot tell you how true that became. I felt a very supernatural peace sitting by his coffin at the cemetery, and believe me, I hadn't expected to! God is so good! God Bless our Vets!

Hi, Beautiful!
A very Happy Memorial Day to you, too!
I'm bein' have, but it's not by choice.
If you ever decide to take that old mutt of yours to the pound, I know an old gray headed mongrel who would love to live in your kennel.
I LOVE brownies!

Hello everyone. Have a pleasant Sunday, all.
MEMORIAL DAY.
We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As TAPS began to play.
The Chaplain led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.
They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.
I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.
Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say
Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore
