The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Thanks so much for taking time to find it and respond!

Personally I'm a huge fan of Sean Astin, and everything I've read and seen of him so far, has been aboveboard and intelligent and thoughtful.

So I was just gobsmacked at his behavior last night.....seemed so out of character.

And embarrassing....
..I kept saying...Please stop...this is y'alls night to shine...don't ruin it!

Billy Boyd got a few words in, but the moment seemed ruined.

I've looked all over for reports this morning from Hollywoodworld, but any mention just gloss over the evening, and mostly mention Tim Robbins political ramblings.

Tis very strange....

I just ate a hugh plate of chili fries from Ron's. With cheese, onions and pinto beans.

Chamomile tea is definitely gonna be in order tonight...and a zantac.

Having this place just down the street from me would likely kill me if I could afford to eat there more often!

Me too.... and I also think "gobsmacked" is a really cool word!

It'll be interesting to see how Sean turns out.... He and Elijah Wood both are not done becoming what they will become. I predict Sean will do something besides act. He is full of ideas that are ahead of his ability to articulate them sometimes. But he'll figure it out.

Since this is a slow day, it's perfect for me to share some HHD knife trivia with you.

While "tuning" the latest batch of knives, I realized the advertising pamphlet, removed to save weight when mailing, had a different date from the one that came with the CRKT 5800.

The pamphlet that came with the 5800 has a printing date of 2/2000, while the on for the 5700s is 2/2002. The earlier pamphlet shows the Sampson 5700/5800, but the 2002 pamphlet doesn't. To me, that means our knives were already out of production by early 2002. The fact that we're still able to buy them at closeout prices from one single dealer is a minor miracle. Please pray that the miracle continues.

Chicken Cacciatore

1 (2-3 lb) frying chicken
1/2 cup olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1 medium onion, sliced
1 teaspoon rosemary
1 bay leaf
1/2 cup white wine
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 1/2 teaspoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon sugar
salt
pepper
1 cup sliced mushrooms, sliced (optional)

Cut frying chicken into pieces. Cover the bottom of a large frying pan with olive oil. Saute minced garlic and onion (sliced thin) with the chicken until the chicken is slightly browned. Add rosemary, bay leaf and wine. Cover and let cook for 15 minutes. Remove cover and let chicken fry a little. Add tomato sauce, pepper, parsley, basil, chili powder, salt and sugar. If desired, add mushrooms (either fresh or canned). Cover and let simmer about 1 hour, or until chicken is tender and done. Serve over rice or pasta.

I like to use raw tomatoes instead of sauce, no sugar, and add green pepper.

Sounds delicious except for the wine! I reckon a half a cup of water would do ok.

I have the same impression of him. I noticed on his website he has aspirations to get into filmmaking and poetry writing in addition to acting. Seems to be a smart guy--I wonder what happened last night?

Well...the alky-hol cooks off. :)

Water would work. Chicken broth would be better.

Use chicken broth in place of the wine, not water.

Yeah, but I don't like the actual taste of wine in food. But the chicken broth does sound like a GREAT idea! I'm fixin' to make a batch to freeze, I have some chicken breast ribs and all those nubbins.
