The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Pretty weird living in that pecan bottom. Usually there are plenty of pecans. When the squash and eggplant and stuff like that gets ready they get into that stuff though.

Seems like squirrels are multiplying at some geometric proportion lately. Takin' over so to speak. Not enough people killin' 'em and eatin' 'em.

The recipe is for one squirrel. I'm suprised you could feed 2 people on one squirrel.

We got to do a little varmint hunting in the front yard yesterday. We noticed a rat coming down out of the hill, going after some cat food that was tossed out the door. Norway rat. Not a real big one, but not a juvenile, maybe a foot long nose to tail.

Used the 8 inch .357 with snakeshot. Dad poked the barrel out the slider just as Mr. Rat was making a return trip for munchies... Bang.

Fer a little critter he sure did bleed a lot. Now he's crab food. The circle of life rolls on.

Good morning!

I'm just polishing off my 3rd cup of coffee and my daily bagel. Time to get to work on this house! It's a disaster!

You know, when I get a dish towel out of the drawer, I use that dishtowel a lot. Same with a dish rag, you know? Keep it on the middle of the sink and use it throughout the day.

Not so with Steve. He apparently thinks that because (amazingly now) there is a full drawer of dish towels and rags, he's obligated to use them up! Same with bath towels. You know, I keep everything washed...every day I do laundry, just about so that we have no dirty laundry sitting about? Well, he must open the linen closet, see all those clean towels in there and just go into some kind of shock, because he proceeds to use several of them over the course of the day!

And here, listen to this! I wash every day, I go to hang up the laundry on the line. Here's my undies, here's Matthew's undies, here's Joshua's undies...then there's Steve's undies...like FIVE PAIR of 'em! Same with socks! A pair of socks for each of us...6 pair for Steve!

I think he just can't hardly believe his drawer is full of clean laundry every day and thinks he's gotta use it up!

I've asked him about it...said "Who wears 5 pairs of underwear in a 24 hour period??" He just thought that was hysterical and laughed...but never answered me!

Mornin' darlin'!

Howcome you didn't cook up that squirrel? :-)

That sounds like a nice weekend adventure though... just about the right amount after your week in SF. Have a restful weekend lookin' at your rocks other than that?

Not a lot of meat on him. Gave it to the crabs. Let them convert it to crab meat and eat it that way. Tastes better.

Yes... I did a lot of standing on rocks, sitting on rocks, and just mainly getting used to how different and how much better it looks.

Also did some looking and pointing and figgerin'... there is some additional work to do to finish it off. Have to decide how to landscape around it all and make some steps down to the new walkway. I think we have a plan now...

Yep. I agree. Crab meat would be better. Good plan. :-)

Just never exactly had that option back home. It would turn into buzzard meat! LOL

I like landscaping. LOL.... *Way* too much. Prolly more than you would want to have to take care of. Lemon verbena would be nice growing down there. And some thyme in amongst the top of the rocks. And some bulbs to come up every spring and have nice colors... or just lots of plain white bulbs. Oh! and I bet there would be a good place or two to put rosemary out there! See what I mean? I've only seen pictures and I can already see what plants would like living there. hehehe

Gotta go meet with one of those ad agencies now. All dressed in my uptown clothes. Pray that this'll be short so I can come home and get back into jeans! :-)

Out of the blue last night, a long lost cousin called me. Turns out she lives about a mile from us! It was pretty cool talking to her. She is a vey distant cousin on the Frantz side. The funny thing is, she and her family lived in Tulsa when I and my family lived there. Small world. We have a lot in common, we talked until the phone went dead. LOL.
