The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Hey there baby! Is your dinner as good as my dinner? :-)

Safe flight? Arrive on time? Nobody chewed you out yet?

Your rocks are there you know. Without you.

I gotta go. Hubby gets in from School here in a bit. He doesn't like it when I'm on the computer (we call it The Milkman).

See you later!

Night all!

I'm still not over that playoff game... I think I need about 6 months before I'll be ready for some football.

I'm the native Yooper here, by the way... born and raised in the U.P. of Michigan. Moved to Texas 14 years ago and have lived here since.

Does that mean I need to wear one of my Hawaiian dresses? They'd be cold unless the weather warms up. They are definitely suited for Texas summers!

Interlibrary loan is one of my bestest friends....

That and half.com.

And "That Bookstore"...that's the name of the local used bookstore, seriesly! I rarely pay anything there...have a running credit. ;-) I bring in books when I'm done and he takes some and gives me credit.

Also get quite a few from the Salvation Army store, surprisingly. They're a good source of light entertainment like mysteries and sci-fi paperbacks...for a quarter a piece. Big spender, I am.

When she died and we were cleaning out the home place, we found the spread. There was a note with my name pinned to it.

That's so sweet! When my paternal great aunt died, at the age of 102, she left me a hope chest she'd had for years and an old treadle sewing machine table. It didn't have the machine, which was fine. I use it in my living room as a side table, with a tablecloth on top of it.

When she turned 100, Daddy and I had gone to visit her, and she gave me a quilt she'd made 25 years earlier. It was one of the last ones she had made. It's not one of those fancy kinds. It was strictly made for WARM!

I was pretty disgusted with the whole library system in our area. We couldn't get books from the large library in Waco cause we didn't live in the county. And we couldn't get books from the library in the town where our mailing address was because we lived outside the city limits. AND I didn't find that out until AFTER I donated 2 large boxes of books to that library!!!

When my oldest daughter went into Jr. High they had just built a new Jr. High/ High school complex in our town. So, where we'd formerly had all grades in one school we then had 2 schools. But, though they built a new school.... they did not even buy one book for the library! It was not in the budget. (of course the football team had a lovely new practice field - this is Texas.)

Guess you'll hafta save it to be altered for the next single Hobbit Hole gal to get hitched...gotta happen someday, right? Please?

You know what makes me both happy and depressed at the same time? Remember the ranting session me and my family members had on the last day of Entmoot about one brother who we all pretty much agreed with is hard to get along with a lot of times? He's more or less engaged to a gal...hasn't formally proposed yet, but I think that's only because he hasn't known her that long and wants to do things properly. He's bringing her to meet us in May.

Life isn't fair. *snif*

Nah, you don't have to... by the way, it reached the 70s here today.

I think I need to get an appropriate hat to go with my shirts.

I had ribeyes. 2" thick. Looked like entmoot fare. Was good! I am miserable! I ate 2 of 'em.... but they weren't big around like entmoot steaks.

I'm kinda screwy though. I like burgers bout as much as I like steak. It's the beef I guess. Best burgers I ever had are in San Antonio. You oughtta come down and try 'em sometime! :-D

It was one of the toughest losses in many years, especially for Brett, I think. I was determined not to dwell on it, though--last time I dwelt on a playoff loss I got depressed for a week, didn't want to go through that again. The fact that Philadelphia got their butt kicked the next week helped me feel better, also :) Still got unresolved feelings over it, though--won't be fully over it until next season when we get some payback.

We visit the UP for vacations sometimes. Also Washington Island. Beautiful area.

It's pretty...though fussy. And you're right...the bow has GOT to go.

Sigh...I struggle so much at times. On the one hand, it seems like living here is a dead end street...not going anywhere at all. On the other hand, I feel like I SHOULD be here, at least for a few more years. I like my job, and my sisters are still fairly young, especially Teresa. Not that I think they absolutely have to have me here...but on the other hand, where can I go? I'm terrified of bigger cities, I have very little chance of finding work I like so much, and I certainly won't be able to afford a downpayment on my own place anytime soon, so if I left it would most likely mean finding homes for at least some of the animals. Too complicated and scary for me.

Guess if God wants me married he'll find a way to lead someone here or give me a clear sign to let go. But as I've said before, I'm not good at the patience thing. And there are plenty of guys who stop lookin' at gals over twenty five or so, even as they themselves get older. Not that I'd be interested in that sort anyway, but...
