Interlibrary loan is one of my bestest friends....
That and half.com.
And "That Bookstore"...that's the name of the local used bookstore, seriesly! I rarely pay anything there...have a running credit. ;-) I bring in books when I'm done and he takes some and gives me credit.
Also get quite a few from the Salvation Army store, surprisingly. They're a good source of light entertainment like mysteries and sci-fi paperbacks...for a quarter a piece. Big spender, I am.

What's that?--sounds useful. I used to shop at Half Price Books which was a blessing, but we don't have one around here. If there's something like that online it'd be great.
We do have a bookstore around here that lets you trade paperbacks. Most of the stuff that comes in isn't stuff I need, but occasionally a gem turns up. Found some old Sax Rohmer mysteries I hadn't been able to find anywhere else.
Salvation Army, eh? Hmmm--I should try that :)

Rosie, I know you like mysteries, and a little science fiction --- may I recommend the J. D. Robb In Death series?
