The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

There you go! That's exactly how I feel. What would get me was Matthew would eat something, then just abruptly STOP eatting it! Now that was distressing. I'd slice up say, banana, and put it on his plate. He'd take one bite and barf all over.

Up until that point he'd have eaten banana without any trouble.

Same thing happened with carrots and many other foods. AS he was growing he ate them then just one by one abandoned them.

My pediatrictian told me not to give him OJ (the only thing he took in that was anywhere remotely close to a fruit)...said he was stuffing himself on OJ. I gave him one glass with each meal. Screwy lady. I dumped her.

I supplement with multivitamins too...they're boys...eventually, they'll eat.

In school, they used to put a blob of plain yogurt on the tray with a peach half in the middle. Looked for all the world like a RAW EGG.

It was revolting.

Ask Msdrby about peanut butter ice cream and dwarf-boy.

Check the spices section of the store. They might have the Steak Seasoning. It has a black lid and the label has a black background.

For a LONG time, I couldn't vacuum with him around...very traumatizing to him.

Heh...the Mrs. has been known to vacuum Jr's room while he was asleep.

It's been the same with us with potty training Luke. Yes, I know he just turned four and that most "normal" kids are trained much sooner. He was probably ready last year around the time my f-i-l died. But things were too chaotic to work on it then. We've known for months that he knew what to do and just plain didn't want to.

He's crossed that bridge now. Stayed dry at the circus, even tho we put him in a pull-up for insurance purposes. But his mom took him there. And on the way home when we stopped at Walmart he volunteered "I need to go in an use their potty."

Kids develop at different rates and kids have normal needs. They don't all follow the format in the textbooks.

My Dad is convinced that the "textbooks" are among the worst things to happen to parenting.

And you're right...potty training doesn't WORK until the kid himself is ready and doesn't wanna be wet! We all trained at varying ages. The girls learned earlier than the guys, on average, and some of the guys learned pretty late because they just didn't give a darn.

LOL! Makes me feel there is some hope after all.

Elf-boy's diet is odd at best. Anything he eats has to be a certain texture and a certain color. dry and *beige*

I never in my wildest dreams thought I would have such a picky eater. He wasn't so picky when he was a baby. It was like night and day. One day, he would eat anything
I put in front of him, the next, he quit eating everything he used to eat (He was about 2 1/2 when he decided he didn't like food anymore).

On the other hand, meals are easier to plan knowing he will only eat one of three things for dinner: grilled cheese, peanut butter sandwich (NO JELLY), or chicken tenders. Breakfast is another story. Thank goodness he ~likes~ breakfast foods.

"I need to go in an use their potty."

Doesn't it just make you so proud? I mean seriously...I'm not kidding...don't you know what a breakthrough that is for your little one? I imagine I'll feel the same way when my kids graduate from college! My heart just rejoiced for my boys when they finally reached that hurdle.

I'm a bit of sap though, when it comes to these jedis.

Yes, but I still have to keep splainin' to the missus that it's best if she takes him to public restrooms.

I wouldn't even go myself at the circus [shudder]. I filed a complaint with the health dept. once. Most places I can tolerate (sports events, etc.), but this one made me naseous and there were hundreds of dads trying to take their kids to the bathroom.

Well, that's enough of that.

Oh yeah...I took the boys until Matthew just got too old. Now I make sure they've gone before we leave the house, because I won't allow Matthew in a mens room alone.

Call me paranoid...but I'm not letting Matthew go into the bathroom till he's old enough to beat the crap out of someone that might bother him.

Elf-boy would live on peanut butter alone if allowed. I was shopping for goodies when he and PE were sicky at home, and found some peanut butter - chocolate swirl ice cream. He just about refused to even try it because it is ice cream. I scooped myself a bowl and finagled him into trying a small spoonful. He came back and tried another small spoonful. The third time he came back, I asked him if he would like a bowl for himself. He said he would, and the rest is history. Last night, there was only one serving left in the box.

Peanut butter ice cream... You know, he was asking me to make peanut butter muffins the other day too. I had never heard of such a thing before! peanut butter muffins?!

Oh yeah, The Wall is what that is from. I was thinking of a cassette I had of just Roger Waters. I liked it a lot. Wish I still had it.
