The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Hello!

Went to the used bookstore and got the Peter Hamilton series Rose was talking about last week. Looks like I have reading material for a while.

Is there an HTML code for MPEG's? I guess I ought to start with that. LoL If so, what is it?

If you're willing, I may someday want to take this offline and ask more questions.

I can do my best! And Bilbo's pretty good at answering questions about the faith...it's sort of a hobby of his.

Yikes...do I ever have a lot of posts to catch up on!

Well, you can link to an mpeg, just like a link to a photo:

< a href=" http://www.yourwebsite.com/mpegfile.mpg " >Text of link here < /a >

Like that, without the spaces... if you do that, then the browser will try to play or download the mpeg when the link is clicked on. Is that what you were looking for?

Well, I'd picked up the first earlier in the week to see if I liked it. I think I do (though I can't seem to sympathize with any of the characters) so I got the other five today.

The end of race week is turning out to reflect the holiday today. Just sucks.

The heroes of the piece are Joshua Calvert, and Syrinx. Joshua moreso, by the end of the trilogy.

As I recall, it takes a long time to introduce them... the early part of the first book concentrates more on establishing the bad guys, especially Quinn Dexter.

Once you get past the first few hundred pages though, the emphasis moves to the good guys!

What tool are you using to try to upload the file?

Perhaps your webservice has a limit on the file size it allows?

I guess I like Joshua. He's cool. A little... immoral, maybe. Syrinx is just odd. But I was rooting for Joshua over Syrinx in the smuggling bit. So I guess I like him.

Dexter has to die. He's horrible.

Back from doing some shopping. Feeling appropriately Scrooge-ish.

I was baaaaaad...spent a lot of money on ME. Some of it was almost justifiable...

For one thing, now that I'm starting that running thing, I needed shoes...the ones I had from before are literally falling apart. I stoopidly bought a pair of Nike's a year or so ago when I was getting into walking again, but they are murder on my feet. Ten minutes and I'm in severe pain. I only got 'em 'cause they were wayyy on sale and felt more or less OK in the store. Dumb move.

So I splurged at got some very similiar to my well-loved old ones, which I guess I should through out now. The soles are peeling off. But they were good shoes! *snif*

I didn't want to spent that much, but they were half price and it's motivation!

I also got a few chocolates at the candy store and a jar of blue cheese-stuffed olives. Mmmmm...

Um...lots of typos and spelling errors. I think I didn't sleep enough last night.

Do olives have caffeine? I could go for a few more of those... ;-)

Well... I think Joshua has his own set of ethics, which don't always match the letter of the law. Syrinx's entire culture is odd, from our point of view, but I thought it was well-laid-out and self-consistent, as an extrapolation of what a space-faring gene-manipulating human culture might become.

Dexter, as the major villain, doesn't meet his end until the last book. But, it is a fitting end, I thought.

I'm still amazed that you guys are getting all this serious winter weather...meanwhile it was in the mid-30s today, here. Very nice!

Unfortunately there's a cold front coming through. Back to five to ten below tonight, and it'll be cold for the rest of the week. Ugh!

Fitting end would be something out of "Braveheart". I guess I'll have to wait and find out.

We did a bunch of errands... rented some DVDs to watch with the bothers this evening while parents are out. I'm such an evil girl... Rankin-Bass "Return of the King" and X-Men 2, which they can't watch because Hugh Jackman is too cool.

Scale was only barely down, so I'm sulking today. And eating fake chocolate.

You're probably putting on muscle due to starting running! I wouldn't sulk about that...

I have yet to see X-Men. I keep forgetting to rent it!

Rankin-Bass ROTK? How are you going to manage torturing them without being tortured yourself?
