The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Set the building on fire? Why is that the one thing that sticks?
Because it's true! As an example: a couple of summers ago, me and two other techs were working a 6 week contract at a place that we all hated. They had severely overestimated the amount of work they would have for us, so we wound up spending a lot of time sitting around with nothing to do. The manager of the project didn't want to look bad, so she kept trying to find things for us to do that we felt were outside of our scope. One day, she was standing at the door to my cube, asking me to help out with watching the problem queue, and she finished up by saying "If you could help out with that, that'd be great, mm-kay?" I didn't think anything of it until one of the other techs came over after she left and pointed out she had been talking just like Lumberg!
Once the three of realized we were working in the "Office Space" office, we got along there much better!

I told her I posted that picture and read the text to her. She says "what are you talkin' about? What do you think he found attractive in that?" The mom is rolling her eyes...

Isn't that always true? A shared communication helps.... plus, geeky things leave the managers out...
Well, it's bedtime. Seeya tomorrow!

He told HER that it had snowed at school while he was on the playground, and that it was snowing "right now" on the way to have lunch. The turkey!I HATE when that happens!

It's unfortunate that the Army postal servie does not have the same checks and balances the regular post office does. believe it or not, there's more Marines in the postal occupations in the brig than anyone else... those guys are always gettin' burned... fargin' bastiges...
