The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Just reading Grammy's thread and there was a remark about Sean Astin making a snotty remark about George W. Bush. Check it out.
If that is true, that would be so sad...

I'm thinkin' you'll do just fine Rose. I've known some of the students here who passed. And was shocked that they remembered their home address.

Well, that's disgusting. I wonder if that's accurate or taken out of context.

Ok, will do!
I've seen some books by Peter Hamilton but never picked them up ... "The Neutronium Alchemist", right? It had an interesting title. Flinx and Pip are a lot of fun right now, I'll certainly look for his other stuff. Actually I hope to get to the used bookstore soon...

Well, he said something similar to what HLL quoted... But it really was "Are you going to expose your breast" He said .... "Oh no.... My brother said not to expose anything if it wasn't the Boob in the White House, but that's just what ~he~ said... I said [brother's name]!"..... and then Joan sent him off somewhere else....
I am not sure what he was really trying to say. It wasn't a smooth move, for sure.

Elf-boy and I built his first crystal radio this weekend.
The bare chassis:
The main coil:
Coil taps i.e "tuning dial":
The finished product. It's tied to a cold water pipe for a temporary ground connection.

It got lost when we moved, but one day I found it in the basement. He was soooo happy! He carried it all around for a couple of days...until the day he left it on the couch and Fiona shredded it completely. *snif* Sounds like something that would happen at our house...

You know... I bet some of the Dwarves could have fun with that line. HA! But you are the one that did!
Heh.... I didn't even ~mean~ to cause that temptation! Honest!

people don't usually give up their petty little power plays without a good reason ... Saw this earlier but I had to run to the meetin'. A good meetin' we got a lot done.
But I appreciate the wise counsel. I don't know all of it, but I do know there's some dark history back about 15 years or so ago. It's a big part of the reason the pool is in such sad shape financially.
BUT, as ominous as the boxes seem, it is now official the "Old Guard" is gone. That's a good thing.

Maybe I'm not the one to comment on the pocket flag 300, but my first thought is why? Seems like all the other stuff we've sent, the knives, the lights, etc. had a practical application.
'Course then again, there's nothing really "practical" about war...if you know what I mean.

One thing I HATE is a cell phone going off during worship!I was at a Dallas Symphony performance a few years ago where part of the performance was recorded. Before the music started, the musical director came out, explained they were gonna record, and implored the audience to turn off their pagers and phones etc. Also to put your program on the floor if you thought you might drop it.
A few minutes later, Andrew Litton, the conductor comes out. the baton gopes up, music starts and not 5 measures into the piece, a phone rang, LOUDLY. The baton went flying back over Litton's shoulder into the audience, and the orchestra just died. It sounded like a set of deflating bagpipes.

Cool.
But are you sure that's not a rocket launching tube, or something?
