The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I wouldn't know about horses. I can tell an Arabian from a Clydesdale from a Lippizanner, but that's about it. Though I remember one of my favorite stories as a kid was about Morgan horses.

Now THAT is a pic. He does make me kinda silly.

Yes, the "Hans" character was great.
I could have done without the glass in the foot scene, too.
But on the whole, I liked the movie.
Not alot of brain power required to enjoy it.
Yes, nice to see you too. I'm pretty busy these days, so am not getting to post as much as I might wish.
Now I'm trying to remember the name of the Bruce Willis movie with the red haired girl that saved the world, for some reason I'm blocking on it, I like that one too. Oh yeah, 5th Element or something.

Glad to read the review. I'm waiting though till it comes out on dvd. Viggo, he is a good actor. Besides the annoying fangirls, how'd the Troy preview look? I'm excited about that one, Sean Bean and all.

Yeah ... it's that narrow-eyed stare.
Quite a chunk o' masculinity ... now I gotta go read the books!
To: Sam Cree
5th Element is one of my top ten favorite movies. It's hilarious. Just great.
The glass window scene in Die Hard is laughable for one reason - you've got Hans and the blond German terrorist shooting at Willis, and Hans tells the other guy, in German, to shoot out the glass, and apparently the German doesn't understand so he repeats in English! I'm not sure what they were trying to do there.

Troy looked... I'm not sure. I hear they've cut out all the gods and goddesses - how can you tell the Iliad without the gods? Bloom looks prettier than the girl playing Helen, and Achilles (Brad Pitt)... well, you know there always were those rumors about Achilles and his buddy Patroklus...
Sean Bean looked good, as did the guy playing Hector. I'll probably see it, after its opening weekend so the fangirls have all seen it at least once.

I liked the first Die Hard movie. I seem to recall that it came out right at the transition between movies where the gunplay and violence level was still somewhat restrained and movies where they'd show indiscriminate shooting and hundreds of deaths on screen (which I believe Die Hard 2 set a record for with like 200+ onscreen deaths). It's striking to compare movies from that time, not too long ago, to now, and to see how far the development in that area has progressed (compare with, say, the machine-gun scenes in Matrix 3). But anyway, I liked the first Die Hard. I think the scene I remember most vividly was Bruce Willis running across the broken glass in his bare feet--ouch!

It is hilarious, not to mention weird.
Gotta shower, back in a few, I think.

The Die Hard sequels had their moments. Not that many of them, true, but a few. Die Hard's one of my favorite Bruce Willis movies, though, after 5th Element.

I was right, "Hidalgo" is a Paint.... a stallion named RH Tecontender. Viggo bought him at the end of the shoot, like he bought Brego.
TheHorse.com: Paints Ride into Hearts of Leading Hollywood Actor and Screenwriter
Slightly surprising to use a horse that is uncharacteristic of a mustang in type, Hidalgo as shown is a lot bigger and more muscled than a Mustang would be, surprising especially because the screenwriter is a long distance race enthusiast and should know better, and hero's whole purpose in life was the promotion of the versatility of the Mustang horse. Oh well, the special that ecurbh and I watched the other night cast a lot of doubt on the whole legend of Hidalgo. There isn't any proof that such a race ever happened, and a lot to indicate it never did. A good story, just maybe not a true one after all. ;~D

I'm not sure what they were trying to do there."Schiesst dem Fenster" :) That part cracked me up because I was taking German at the time and even I understood what he was saying. I interpreted it as meaning those other guys weren't really German like Hans was, just hired mercenaries. When they first came in the building the terrorists were pretending to discuss a Lakers game, which made me think at least some of them were American.
To: JenB
I only saw the second one, which wasn't nearly as good as the first one. Was there a third one?
To: Fedora
Yes, the third was "Die Harder" and costarred Samuel Jackson.
Heck, even I picked up on the german and I'm linguistically challenged. The terrorist he was talking to was one of the definitely German ones, though... you're right, some were Americans.

Whichever Die Hard that has a plane crash in snow was filmed in part at Grant County Airport while I was there in flight school. Bruce Willis and crew booked into Moses Lake in winter, where snow was all but assured, and had to wait around for a couple weeks because there wasn't any.
Parts of Always were also filmed there. It was an interesting time in Moses Lake.

We musn't forget his part Alec Trevelyan in Golden Eye, that's when I first noticed him. He plays such a good bad guy. But I want to see him play a smoochy good guy. Whatever happened to his The Big Empty movie? It came out last November but I never knew it was playing. I wonder when it will be on DVD.
I haven't seen any of the Sharpe series. I really want to but no rental place in town carries them. I looked on Ebay to buy them, but they want 14.99 or so for one of them, and all of them for about 125.00. I'd hate to spend so much on one and then wish I had the whole, and I can't afford the complete set right now. some day I will buy them.

I haven't seen Matrix 3, but know that it is not well thought of...Did you like it, Bear?

Well, someone certainly doesn't like the guy! Personally I just thought it was a good story. If it happened to be true, so much the better.
