Victoria, your picture of Wild Horses -- charging, vibrant and free --is inspirational, but also calls to mind a very good movie we saw again a few nights ago, The Horse Whisperer. And, that's my segway to what comes next.
'Tis also the season movie critics reflect on the year's films. In that spirit, here are ten films my wife and I enjoyed in 2003 and recommended to friends. This a personal selection listed alphabetically and not intended to be predictive of future success in film contests, like the Oscars. Some films may not be listed simply because we have yet to see them.
Finding Nemo
Girl With A Pearl Earing
Hours, The
House of Sand and Fog, The
Master and Commander
Seabiscuit
Spellbound
Swimming Pool
Whale Rider
Winged Migration
I wonder what your comments or, better, your choices, would be? In other words, what are your recommendations?
Incidentally, we found Cold Mountain (the film, not the book) to be the most disappointing of the current crop.

Wow, you are definitely a moviegoer. I haven't seen as many movies as you have, and I haven't seen Lord of the Rings yet, which most critics pick for best movie of the year, but I particularly like Secondhand Lions with Robert Duvall and Michael Cain. I like this movie because it shows how strong family bonds are. Besides Duvall and Cain are excellent actors, and their performances, in this movie is memorable.
I also like Master and Commander. Not only Russell Crowe's performance and the rest of the crew were just fabulous, but also it's the other elements combined that make the movie superb. I mean, the sound effects and the choreography are outstanding.
Another of my favorites is Seabiscuit with Jeff Bridges, an excellent actor as well, and the cinematography here is also outstanding. I found this an uplifting movie of hope and faith at the time when America was feeling down.

Love, Hate and Heart
Both love and hate in our lives may abound
They are often quite closely entwined.
To try separating by logical thought
Cannot be accomplished, we find.
The attempt to employ mere secular means
For breaking the twain apart
Will prove to be an impossible task
Without getting help from the heart.
For heart alone leads to Presence of God
And then stands on guard at the gate
Only love is allowed by the Presence within
No entry is open to hate.
So for instant access to this Presence of God
To admit without hindrance of wait
Our hearts should provide us a blanket of love
To cleanse us from stigma of hate.

Hi Meekie
Thank you for bringing coffee this morning.
My son was here and he helped me with some out-of-doors chores while Hubby played golf.
It was cold early but did get warmer this afternoon.
Hope you had a great day! See you tomorrow.

This is an interesting topic, but I have not seen any movies this year.
I read The Horse Whisperer several years ago and enjoyed the book immensely. I hope to see Seabiscuit and may get to Finding Nemo if I can get a 4 year old to go with me.
Anyone else have any movies to critique

I read about this in the local rag this morning.
Has anyone tried it? If not, will you try it, if you can find it?
Any comments?
