I told someone the other day about my experience of going to a public school Christmas Program. I'm sure they didn't call it that.

My great-nephew is in kindergarten. The play was about Christmas in a shopping mall. Students from the eight grade had the speaking parts. The other students provided the music. The only song I recognized was Jingle Bells. There was no "Away in a Manger", "First Noel" or "Joy to the World".

Now they have removed Christ from Christmas. Today's children may never get to hear the beautiful Christmas music and the story of the birth of Christ. Very Sad.

If enough folks no longer care, Christians will soon be back in the arenas, and Christ, just a partial spelling of party-time.

You see more and more Christians enrolling their children in private school or home schooling.

What grade do you teach? Does your school have Christmas Break or Winter Break?

I teach Spanish in a Language Institute, mainly to people who want to travel to Spain or Latin American countries for business or pleasure. I also teach Italian in the summer, so I'm quite busy during the year.

Several years ago, a friend and I went to Vegas for the week-end. We went to a Tom Jones dinner show. I'm not sure where the show was .... on the stage or in the audience.

He probably received at least 10 room keys during that show. His show was very good. When I got home and told hubby, he said it was probably part of the act but I don't think so.

Thanks for bringing back those memories.

Hey .... want to teach me Italian? I would have one up on my Italian husband. He knows very few words. Like 'eat'. My mother-in-law was an excellent cook.

Loving Heavenly Father,

Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.

Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. May Christmas morning make us happy to be Thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake.

SANTA'S CHRISTMAS EVE PRAYER

But Santa still knelt by the side of the bed.

"Dear Father, he prayed "Be with me tonight.
There's much work to do and my schedule is tight.
I must jump in my sleigh and streak through the sky,
Knowing full well that a reindeer can't fly.

I will visit each household before the first light,
I'll cover the world and all in one night.
With sleighbells a-ringing, I'll land on each roof,
Amid the soft clatter of each little hoof.

To get in the house is the difficult part,
So I'll slide down the chimney of each child's heart.
My sack will hold toys to grant all their wishes.
The supply will be endless like the loaves and the fishes.

I will fill all the stockings and not leave a track.
I'll eat every cookie that is left for my snack.
I can do all these things Lord, only through You,
I just need your blessing, then it's easy to do.

All this is to honor the birth of the One,
That was sent to redeem us, Your most Holy Son
So to all of my friends, least Your glory I rob,

My Christmas wish for you, my friend
Is not a simple one
For I wish you hope and joy and peace
Days filled with warmth and sun

Throughout the coming year
Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer

May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totaled by the lot
May you find all you've been given
To be more than what you sought

May your journeys be short, your burdens light

Gingerbread Men

1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 Tbsp. vinegar
5 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 to 3 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves

Cream shortening and sugar.
Beat in egg, molasses, and vinegar.
Sift together dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture.
Chill 3 hours. Roll dough on lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thick. Cut in shapes.
Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. Bake at 375F for 5 to 6 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheet and then remove to rack. Makes about 5 dozen.
