The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

do you cut your wings into pieces or keep them whole?

I cut them up...they're easier to dip that way. Also, I collect the nubbins in the freezer and use 'em to make chicken stock.

I know Clooney's a ____________ (fill in your own term), but it's a great movie.

So far it appears we're all in agreement on that statement...

Dwarves...dwarves are somewhere between Klingons and Ferengi.

*Ahem*

Ok! Good...that's what I did. I forgot the blue cheese dressing! ARrgh! I'll run get it when Steve gets home.

The sauce smells fabulous! Nearly knocked me over. I did 4lbs. 6 tbsp Tabasco, 6 tbsp vinegar, 4 tbsp butter. It's melting together right now.

Ok, why did I come home?

Get home and the middle sister is back, as expected, but she's giggling and squeaking at the top of her voice for no apparent reason. And the oldest brother is back... he's fourteen and about the most obnoxious person in this house, which is saying something since I live here, and he's got a cohort of equal age. Um.... well, good thing I did a lot of my homework last night....

Can we go back to Entmoot now?

"dwarves are not heroes, but calculating folk with a great idea of the value of money; some are tricky and treacherous and pretty bad lots; some are not, but are decent enough people like Thorin and Company, if you don't expect too much."

I got to thinking recently how no kid will ever have that particulary opportunity again.

heh. I knew that opportunity last year when I needed to pick up a 2nd job...

2J - You showed great restraint in what was a most difficult situation. 6 months ago, I had to visit the office of Partick Kennedy (our most limp-wristed liberal Congressman). His office is located in the heart of the RI DNC office...I was in the belly of the Beast. I felt uneasy the entire time, it was a terrible experience..lol

I know! We filed through the news room and it was all I could do not to jump on a chair like Sally Field with a placard saying "Blow it out your shorts!"

Entmoot 2004: There and Back Again, a Hobbit’s Tale

Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004

Hooray!! Today I was up in time to see the sun rise with Hair and ecurbh. Actually, I kind of saw it before and after. I was up in time to see the sky turn pink and thinking that the sun would rise behind the clouds on the horizon, I tried to go back to sleep. Too late, I was too awake. Outside the window, the sun was a pink disk about a quarter inch above the horizon. Kewl. Wneighbor has been sleeping on the couch in the main living room and since she was awake, ecurbh and Hair wanted to watch the news and turned on the TV. I spilled my coffee (fortunately not on the carpet) diving for the volume control before it woke up the whole house. When that TV comes on, it comes on full volume. Crisis! We’re out of regular coffee!!

Ruthy arrived early with Becky this morning….hurray! (did she bring caffeine?) SuziQ and her kids were supposed to leave at 9:00 but I think it was 9:30 by the time they left. Hope they don’t miss the train. Jen and Rosie made pancakes and bacon. Our Celtic trio played for a while before…..going downstairs to watch anime. Family g’nad went back to NASA to see stuff they missed yesterday (they had a three day pass). Ruthy’s Becky wanted to watch Pee Wee Herman’s Greatest Adventure. After the movie, ksen’s boys went swimming in the pool. Becky wanted to go swimming too but she didn’t bring a suit so she went swimming in shorts and T-shirt. Ruthy wants to see Casablanca at some point. “Entmoot” decided not to go and meet g’nad at the shooin’ range… a 2 hour drive for 15 minutes of shooting so I expect we’ll be shootin’ at a future moot. SuziQ left the Bakshi movie…..Aaaaaaggghhh!!!!

It’s another day of soaking up rays for me. I’ve been changing clothes three or four times a day. In the morning I’ve got sweats on. Mid-morning, change to T-shirt and jeans. Change into shorts after lunch and then it’s back to jeans after sundown.

Now that Ruthy was back we started the Bakshi movie again so she could have the complete “Entmoot experience.” Guess trini and Corin lucked out. J It was after lunch so I grabbed a stout this time. I don’t think I can take that movie without alcohol. I think I’m developing a drinking problem. After watching this movie, all the edits and changes Peter Jackson made looks like genius. Sorry to say that it didn’t improve with a second viewing. After Bakshi there was more of the same…..hanging out in the sun…tea…coffee…irish coffee: the perfect hobbit holiday. After another shopping trip Mrs. Ksen returned with real coffee and brought back what appears to be a side of beef.

Jen and Rosie were going to brave the ocean again but there were Portuguese Man of War in the water. Must be Man of War season. They ended up in the pool. Wneighbor is thrilled that Ruthy’s Becky has started calling her “Granny.” Pictures of Corin’s sliders are taken….this time in the surf. Bilbo Bagpies is practicing out on the deck. We finished playing Fawlty Towers and the g’nads moved into SuziQ’s room and Ruthy and Becky took the g’nad’s room.

At supper we had MAJOR ripe meat off the bone. It looked like an anti-PETA rally. My steak was about 1 ½ to 2 inches thick and 8 to 10 inches around. Usually when I buy a hunk of meat that size, I can eat off it for a whole week. Anyway, that steak is my whole meal although I was able to squeeze in a brownie or two for dessert later on. J I don’t think I’ll need any more beef for a couple of weeks.

Ksen’s two boys and thegirl went swimming after supper. Becky was bummed that Ruthy wouldn’t let her swim too. After dinner conversation was about eating weird stuff…worms, snakes, Korean food….thanks guys. Also there was some discussion about what Corin’s shoes would be up to next. They ended up taking pictures of his shoes in bed with some girlie shoes and cut-out hearts on the pillow. Corin might not be on vacation anymore but his shoes sure are having fun! Corin posted saying to put some socks on fercryinoutloud. Too late! The next picture was of the happy shoes with thenewboy’s shoes trailing behind. Since the Jen’s lawyer story didn’t take, we were kicking around new stories but nothing really took. There was talk of the possibility of Hair and ecurbh slipping out at night for a dip in the pool….that’s why they went to bed at 10:00 every night. Hobbits are just no good at fabricating juicy stories!

Tonight’s feature is Casablanca. G’nad isn’t too thrilled but watches with us anyway. Eh….”You can always watch the French run away.” Ksen took Jen, Rosie, Bilbo, and Mug to a pub for some Irish music but they had some guy playing pop music on guitar instead. Ksen said UNC was leading Maryland so I have something to look forward to when I get back and catch up on my games. [Stoopid Heels lost!] After Casablanca they’re watched South Park. Back downstairs with the anime crowd. Maybe this stuff makes more sense in the light of day or something got lost in the translation. I got to bed at a reasonable time – around midnight.

(*hangs head in shame*...I don't have one)

But...it's funny to note that in order to get into the area where his office is, you have to go through a security checkpoint. Not unlike the security checkpoint at LAX where Patches had his little freak-out incident and roughed up a screener, shreiking "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM!??!"

The temptation to scream that to his security screener was about all I could bear.

LOL I know the feeling! When that guy said that about the big toilet paper roll, I went "Umph!!!" under my breath! Matthew looked at me and just smirked.
