Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Yep, got my socks and big fluffy house shoes here...
First I wash them with Aveeno skin relief body wash, then let them soak, then apply the lotion to the dry foot and the neosporin to cut. then I put a bandaid on the cut.
I'm sitting here soaking my feet, drinking coffee, freepin' and grading Matthew's schoolwork at the same time!
Soon as I get my feet fixed up, I'm gonna try calling HP about the computer.

yes... Today is my first day of VACATION... and it is finally sinking in that I'm on VACATION. And that I'll be at ENTMOOT tomorrow night. Holysmokes.

Keep us informed! I'm curious what HP will say.
Assuming you can get 'em to talk to you. I'm wondering if merging with Compaq improved Compaq or brought down HP...
To: Ramius
I'm trying to get a TON of stuff done before leaving...and two people are out today. I was hoping to leave early today so I'd have more prep time, but...huh-uh. Don't think it'll happen.
To: RosieCotton
I will. I personally can't believe they'll be able to help me...I think I'll have better luck with the geeks down the street.
But we'll see.

Sounds luxurious!!
Your feet should be better in no time!

Mmmm...strawberries.
On top of the hill near my parents house (well, maybe a mile or so away, but not far) they cleared a strip through the hills for the phone / power lines to go through. Miles and miles and miles of 'em. They also sprayed something to keep trees away from the lines. Well...it kept trees from growing for awhile, but wild strawberries just took over like crazy! We used to go up there and just gorge on the things.
Never made it back with enough to make anything. Oops...

Did you say before that the Bios loading screen doesn't come up?
To: RMDupree
Dang. Forsaken these lands. Of course. [sigh]
To: Ramius
Do not trust to hope, for it has abandoned these lands. :-) Heh...that bad, huh?
I bought a Compaq a number of years ago. Had a monitor blow after I'd had it just under a year...after trying to convince them it was busted, that I was a tech and KNEW it was busted, and much being treated like dirt, I finally gave up trying to get it replaced. It's in my basement now.
May save them money on current customers, but I'll never be a repeat customer. I was astonished by how NASTY they were!
To: RosieCotton
Never made it back with enough to make anything. Oops...Blackberries grow EVERYWHERE in the area I grew up. My grandparents had 7 acres along a creek. We'd pick the berries in mid to late August for homemade blackberry ice cream. OMG, it's good. Had to pick about twice as much as needed, due to the eating of the vine effect.
To: Ramius
"Abandoned" implies that they were once actually
involved in providing customer service. We know better than that, don't we?
hehehehe...

Yeah, lots of wild berries up this way, too. My favorite are black raspberries, but they're the scarcest. Where they DO grow, they grow densely, but there are many, many more blackberry and red raspberry patches.
C'monnnnn JUNE!
To: RosieCotton
It used to be, many many moons ago, that Compaq's SERVER support group was just about the best there was. But that was a long time ago. I've not heard much good lately.
To: Ramius
See, the thing tries real hard to boot up...starts going through the process. Then it starts flashing these blue screens with white print on them, but they flash so quickly that I can't read a single word.
But if I keep tapping F1 while it's TRYING to boot up, it'll take me to the BIOS screen. I have the BIOS screen running right now.

But that was a long time ago. I've not heard much good lately.Must have been QUITE a long time ago. We had one Compaq server when I was in Germany that had multiple hard drives die. The US support folks wouldn't help us 'cause they said even though we were on a US base, we needed to speak to European support...European support said the opposite. Took us a lot of angry calls before they finally sent a replacement drive...which was bad. And so on and so forth.
The STOOPID thing is that I bought my Compaq desktop AFTER this experience. Talk about a glutton for punishment...

Listening to Rose describe the problem after she spoke with you, it sounds like either the operating system or the hard disk has become corrupt; the ultimate fix in either case would be to reformat the disk and re-install the operating system. But, hopefully HP or the GDTS (Geeks Down The Street) can get you a boot CD so that you can boot from the CD-ROM drive and try to recover your data before re-installing.
