Poetry and Potpourri .... November 12-13, 2003

.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

I saw an graphic a couple of days ago that I wanted to post with this poem. But when I found the poem, I searched and searched but could not find the graphic.
You are right, a graphic is not needed to see the image.

Good Morning, Meg.

That poem gives us a better picture of what the families of our military sacrifice for our FReedoms.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Poetry and Potpourri extends our deepest sympathy on the loss of your niece.
Please, Father, comfort and bless this family. Hold the children in your loving embrace as you give them comfort in the loss of their mother.
We ask this in Jesus Name. Amen

CONTEMPLATION

Don't ask me why
though redwoods and
wild rivers cry
my name
I find my peace
upon a tropic shore

Could it be the seas
and scent of flowers
that tradewinds only tease
a game
that draws me in
and bids me linger more

I will not deny
the beauty of the north
of mountain, sea, and sky
or driftwood flame
my annual trek
renewing old emotion

Yet I still yearn
for this soothing calm
that in my heart would burn
and somehow tame
the wilderness in me
just as it calmed
and stilled this restless ocean.

That was a beautiful prayer you posted to Alamo Girl. How nice you can be when the occasion warrants it. ;-) The poem with the picture of the WALL is a tear jerker. I saw the wall when it traveled to Clovis, and I was not prepared for the emotional trauma seeing it would cause. I knew it would be sad, but wow, it just about did me in.

"How nice you can be when the occasion warrants it"

"I saw the wall when it traveled to Clovis"

I've been to DC twice and visited the wall both times. I stood there in awe. I did the same at the Tomb of the Unknown. Those two places are like being in church. The emotions you feel are overwhelming.

There were three people stranded on an island, a brunette, a redhead, and a blonde. The brunette looked over the water to the mainland and estimated about 20 miles to shore. So she announced, "I'm going to try to swim to shore." So she swam out five miles, and got really tired. She swam out ten miles from the island, and she was too tired to go on, so she drowned.

The second one, the redhead, said to herself, "I wonder if she made it. I guess it's better to try to get to the mainland than stay here and starve." So she attempts to swim out. The redhead had a lot more endurance than the brunette, as she swam out 10 miles before she even got tired. After 15 miles, she was too tired to go on, so she drowned.

So the blonde thought to herself, "I wonder if they made it! I think I'd better try to make it, too." So she swam out 5 miles, ten miles, fifteen miles, and finally nineteen miles from the island. The shore was just in sight, but she said, "I'm too tired to go on!" So she swam back.

Wednesday Sasso Update:

Went to Vet this morning and she removed Sasso's drains. He also got his wound cleaned and medicated, which he found unpleasant but he tolerated it without too much meowing and clawing. Some skin has died leaving an awful open wound about the size of my fist, but it's not infected - thank God! My job now is to clean it and put the medicine on it that will help new skin grow. (But I suspect hubby will be sweet talked into taking on this chore.)

I almost passed out when the Vet and technician were working on Sasso. I have a very low tolerance to icky medical stuff (and my mom tried to convince me to be a nurse! HA).

The good news is Sasso is mobile and is eating on his own. He has good cranial reflexes - pupils respond to light, eyes blink when touched on brow, ears sensitive to touch, etc. But the vet doesn't believe he can see, based on tests she did. And she doesn't think he has any feeling in his front paws, or the signal to his brain may just be very slow. Please continue to pray with me that God will give him a complete recovery.

Here's a pix, if you have a strong stomach and want to see what I'm dealing with click here. It's pretty gross, so you've been warned.

ISN'T IT NICE THAT SOMEONE CARES

Sen. John Kerry, recovering from prostate surgery, was told it would be six months before he could be sexually active.

Joe Lieberman called to wish Kerry well.

Al Sharpton called Kerry to offer prayers.

Howard Dean called with a get well message.

Richard Gephardt called with encouragement on recovery.

Bill Clinton called Mrs. Kerry.

Eleven/Eleven

Three Vets home from Chicago,
One went for engagement party,
One went for Auntie's birthday,
One went for radio awards.
Jen returned to kitty,
Imus returned to The City, And
Larry returned to just rewards
