.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

That link to the hummingbird photos is *spectacular*!
I wish Lynne (LBGA - may she rest in peace) was still here to see that. She *loved* hummingbirds.

Hi there Pippin!

There was a Christian lady who lived next door to an atheist. Everyday, when the lady prayed, the atheist could hear her. He thought to himself, "She sure is crazy, praying all the time like that. Doesn't she know there isn't a God?"
Many times while she was praying, he would go to her house and harass her, saying "Lady, why do you pray all the time? Don't you know there is no God?" But she kept on praying.
One day, she ran out of groceries. As usual, she was praying to the Lord explaining her situation and thanking Him for what He was going to do. AS USUAL, the atheist heard her praying and thought to himself. "Hmph . . .I'll fix her."
He went to the grocery store, bought a whole bunch of groceries, took them to her house, dropped them off on the front porch, rang the door bell and then hid in the bushes to see what she would do. When she opened the door and saw the groceries, she began to praise the Lord with all her heart, jumping, singing and shoutin' everywhere!
The atheist then jumped out of the bushes and told her, "You ol' crazy lady, God didn't buy you those groceries, I bought those groceries!"
Well, she broke out and started running down the street, shouting and praising the Lord. When he finally caught her, he asked what her problem was . . .
She said, "I knew the Lord would provide me with some groceries, but I didn't know he was gonna make the devil pay for them!"

RAIN
I love it when the rain
sneaks in at night
and greens the thirsty
country side
but then it's gone
by morning's light
a quiet event
much like the waning tide
I sometimes catch it
in its shadowed stealth
when I hear it
rapping on my pane
bringing all its wealth
as it renews the earth
much to my garden's gain
is not the rain
a lovely gift from God
to spark to life the seed
and quench the arid sod?
To: fish hawk
Is "Rain" another of yours? It certainly reminds me of the wonderful feelings I get when we get rain in December and January.
There is so much depth in the poems that you post here. Thank you again.

Yes, I wrote "Rain" early this morning. All the poems I post are my own. If I was to post one by somebody else I will give them the credit at the bottom of the poem. Aloha
To: fish hawk
I was sure it was yours but you usually sign your name and I wanted to confirm that you wrote it.
It's so beautiful, I really didn't need the confirmation. LOL

Wow! That is one powerful and tender story. Thank you for posting it.

I love it when the rain
sneaks in at night Oh, and so do I! Unfortunately, here in the Central Valley, we see little of it. Some years, almost none it seems.
Your poem makes me long for a stormy night. :-)
To: Temple Owl

Yes ... that story does tug at the heartstrings, doesn't it?
Thank you for coming by today.
