.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

He was limping, and went into the vet last night.
We're lucky the vet has evening hour emergency care.

He is now on antibiotics, and is really angry at us about it.

OMG, comic relief..
We had to do it twice thi smorning.
The first dose he spit out, fountained more like it, and tried to run away.
The second dose he got, and called us all hairless apes and other insults to humankind that cats use.
He should know better than to resist the apeven von wrathen.

We had the "How to Give a Cat a Pill" somewhere.
I swear, cats can read.

In Flanders Fields by John McCrea

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I love "In Flanders Fields". I never see a poppy without recalling this poem.

Thank you for posting it here on this day when we honor our veterans.

I cannot write beautiful poetry to honor our Veterans (I will leave that to the poets here who do it so well), but I went into photoshop where I can be a bit creative and made up this offering for Veterans Day.

I hope to be back later...have some errands to run.

I understand the sentiment.
Isee some of those with more poetry talent than I, and often wish I had slightly more talent.
Then I see the photoshop wizards, and feelalmost pathetic.
*chuckle*
Thanks for the images.

Sleep Now Sleep

I couldn't sleep for the life of me,
So I went down on bended knee.
I asked the Lord high in the sky,
Please Lord make me sleepy eyed.

He said my child you worry in vain,
Sleep now, sleep well, I'll take away your pain.
Just close your eyes and think no more,
Leave your troubles behind for Me to store.

Then quickly I rose, jumped back in bed.
Knowing full well He meant what He said.
Oh, Lord my God I do love You so!
I'll follow You forever, wherever You go!

Today's Sasso Update.

I'm tired! Taking care of this critter is about as much work as having a newborn. Was up several times during the night checking on him and flipping him from side to side so fluid won't build up in his lungs, and to give water/food. (I slept on a blanket next to him in case he woke up, so I'm kinda achy too.)

Great improvement today though!!! Sasso stood up and walked! At first I held up his tummy because he was so weak and uncoordinated. Then after he ate and was stronger he walked some more with me keeping my hands at his sides in case he wobbled - which he did. But he was able to take several steps unassisted. I am so proud!

He also ate from a bowl! But, I'm still hand feeding him so he can get enough calories. And, we still give fluids subcutaneously so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Taking him back to the vet tomorrow. His drains should come out, and he will need some stitches in a spot where the skin died and pulled apart.

Today's big concern is Sasso may be blind, but we're not sure of that yet. The Vet neurologist says sight is the last thing to return in a cat that has had a brain injury (in Sasso's case - lack of oxygen and/or high fever). He turns his head side to side and is responsive to sounds, but does not respond to anything we put in front of his face and move. His pupils respond to light, but often he has his eyes open and seems to be staring into space. I hope the vet will be able to do some tests tomorrow and of course I'm praying that my little fella will be able to see.

God has been so good thus far, I pray for Sasso's complete recovery. And I thank each of you who are praying too.

He is now on antibiotics, and is really angry at us about it.

I know how that is! My little fella has a pill each night. I make hubby give it. It's not so hard to get Sasso to take it now because he's very weak. But I don't think it'll be long before it'll be more challenging!

Glad your kitty went to the vet and is getting the meds that he needs.
