.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Thanks for another wonderful poem. Are you and Sea Hawk one and the same? If you are not Sea Hawk, have you met him/her? These two poems are so similar in style. I enjoyed both!

I do not know "Sea Hawk". I am American Indian and the style, I believe , is from my native roots. It's in the blood. I belonged to the old Belvedere poetry thread and a lot of my poems are in the Anthology there.

A blonde's apartment was on fire. She called 911.
Operator: 911 what is your emergency? Blonde: My apartment is on fire! Operator: How do we get there?
Blonde: Duhh... big red truck!

The Promise

To others like me who still have dreams,
the butterflies remain
to bring a promise of things to come
like rainbows after rain.

Uncharted paths to mountain peaks
may lead to valley floors.
Yet, who on earth can guarantee
what lies beyond closed doors.

Don't teach me how to build a shell
and live my life inside
and close my thoughts to butterflies
or say unicorns have died.

Perhaps it's wrong to live in dreams
and seek that pot of gold,
but looking to new horizons each day
keeps hearts from growing old.

Wow, reminded me of this song...

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
And she's gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
That grow so incredibly high

Newspaper taxis appear on the shore
Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with you head in the clouds
And you're gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds

Picture yourself on a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Great post!
