The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

I guess I must tell my own embarrassing story... ahem...

I was on a crowded swimming beach wearing my new, strapless bikini with the new-fangled closure on the back. My young daughter was playing with me and chasing me down the beach. To stop me she grabbed at the only part she could get hold of - the back of my top. The closure came undone and with a rubber-band-like snap swung around to my front. I grabbed at it and held the top to me as 100's of people (probably) looked on. I yelled at my daughter (sorry about that dear) and ran for the water where I ducked down and tried to get my top fastened again.

because it was in back this was hard and I floated out to deeper water to wrestle with it. Very quickly a couple male sun bathers swam out to see if they could "lend any assistance..." HORRIBLE! I blush even now. ;) Moral of the story: If you even think a bathing suit clasp might not stay closed DON'T BUY THE SUIT! LOL

Hey, y'all...I've been thinking of posting a bit of verse that I like, with Halloween coming on and all, and wondered what you think. This is the first stanza...

I have three friends, three faithful friends,
More faithful could not be--
And every night, by the dim firelight,
They come to sit with me.

Anybody recognize this? The author is very well known, with over 100 titles and 80 million books in print...

OMG! hahahahahaha

OK, I'll tell you my embarrassing flashing story. Hubby and I went on a cruise and the ship docked in Puerto Rico. We took the tour into the rain forest and I decided to wear this loose, halter-type sundress.

Although I knew I looked really cute (*grin*) I was surprised at how many admiring glances I was getting as we were climbing up steep stairs and trails.

Hubby finally decided to clue me in on the 'show' I was inadvertently giving when the wind was blowing or if you were looking at me from certain angles. Need I elaborate? Or, would y'all rather see the pix? hahahahaha

Dang! Wish I'd known about the many uses of double-sided tape back then. hahahahaha

I have something for Halloween, but I’m a bit leery about posting it. Louis L'Amour wrote a book of poetry in the mid to early 30s -- Smoke From This Altar.

In the foreword, Louis’ wife says this:

"One night in a ship's foc'stle, Louis had been trying to work out a particularly romantic poem when several of the other seamen began to tease him about only being able to write "love-stuff." After several hours of work he presented them with "My Three Friends," proving that he indeed had other talents."

AntiJen gets the prize! Now, I've gotta figure out what that is...

I was at the Jersey shore with a friend, and she was hit from behind by a rogue wave.
Let's just say she ended up juggling while her top floated to my feet.
