CC fans are unhappy again. After Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White subbed Caitlin Clark out just shy of her double-double against the Minnesota Lynx, fans erupted, slamming the management.
Clark helped her side secure a dominant 96-77 road win over the league-leading Lynx on September 22, 2026. The 24-year-old finished with 27 points, four steals, nine assists, and seven rebounds. She also produced several deep triples throughout the game.
However, one of the highlights of Clark’s play came with 1:23 left in the fourth quarter when she connected with Sophie Cunningham for an easy layup. Makayla Timpson gave the ball to Clark after the Fever forward rebounded a missed shot from Minnesota. Clark then swiftly moved the ball up the court for a fast-break play.
Clark dished a precise bounce pass to Cunningham for the two points when she saw her teammate running to the basket with defenders trailing her. As exciting as the Clark-Cunningham connection was in that moment, the excitement for fans didn’t last long. After the assist, Indiana subbed out Clark and Cunningham, along with Timpson, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell.
For Fever, it may not have made sense to risk getting their star players injured just before the playoffs, given that the game was in their bag. Still, fans quickly took to social media to call out White and her staff in the comments on Indiana’s video of the play, especially since Clark was close to a double-double.

There's a lot of valid criticism on how the WNBA treats her, but this is petty IMHO. Less than 2 minutes with over a 15 point lead, the coach's risk assessment is protect the stars.
Yeah, I love the Clark and Sofy team. I’ve even watched WNBA a couple times to see them play. That’s unprecedented. I’m glad to see the coaching staff is looking out for their health. It can get dangerous out there for those two if the other team is so far behind that they got nothing to lose by hurting someone.
Leftists would celebrate loudly.
This reaction is a result of the way the WNBA has treated Clark. Well placed, or not, the hyper sensitivity of the fans shouldn't be unexpected.

Could have pulled her with 6 minutes left in the game. There was no risk management here. It was spite. Coach already threw shade at Clark in earlier games.

The complaints probably came from gamblers who had bet on Caitlyn Clark getting a double-double in this game.
