Mexican Americans have made Tucson the foodie capital of the world

They've also turned East LA into gangland and most of the neighborhoods they squat in into trash heaps.

I know it’s rhetorical, but if they love Mexico so much WTF are they doing here?

They know that they can recreate Mexico here (most towns along our side of the US-Mexico border may as well be Mexico) while enjoying the benefits of America's higher standard of living. So it's win-win for them.

The promise of stable, high-wage industrial jobs drew Arab immigrants to Detroit and Dearborn starting in the 1910s and 1920s

And they were overwhelmingly Christian. The Muslims did not arrive until much later. That is one of the reasons why Lebanon was a formerly majority Christian country, many of them left the country and now they live in the U.S.

Lebanese Christians are far less problematic than any other Arab group. Not being Muslims is already a large benefit when it comes to assimilation, but on top of that, many of them tended to become prosperous businessmen or skilled tradesmen, in sharp contrast to the slum Muslim Arabs that you get in the outskirts of Paris, Brussels, etc.

I've found that Americans of Lebanese Christian descent are culturally more like Greek Americans or other southeast Europeans than like their fellow Arabs in their attitude and mindset.

Maybe so!

But there are now two Mexican-American driven foodie capitals—Tucson and San Antonio!

I’m capable of cooking my own chili and tacos - it’s a fair sacrifice to make for cleaner streets, English-speaking neighborhoods, and fewer cholos running around showing their twisted, curly-fingered gang signs. It’s the same line of thinking as “we should have picked our own cotton”.

And why isn’t somebody, for all out protection, working to get Dearborn & similar places back to normal. If we are to have a war, let’s start in some of the right places.

A lot of the families that run those Tucson restaurants have been in town for several generations. (And they make better food than I can make.) Ditto for the Jacome family, who ran an iconic department store, and now include a leading real estate agency.

Yes, there are poor and homeless Mexicans in Arizona and Texas. But there are also Mexican-American cvic leaders, U of A faculty, US veterans, etc. etc.
