The Texans' sacrifice at the Alamo and their improbable victory at San Jacinto still define our world in ways few understand.
Today marks the 190th anniversary of the martyrdom of the heroes of the Alamo, who died to delay the dictator Santa Anna's army long enough so that Texian troops could rally and defend their homes. Singular among those heroes was Colonel and Congressman David S. Crockett, “King of the Wild Frontier.”
Born in 1786 in that part of North Carolina which was then the renegade “State of Franklin” but not yet the State of Tennessee, “Davy” Crockett was a legend even in his own time, and long before the Texas Revolution.
The son of John Crockett, one of the Overmountain Men unleashed by Joseph Martin to turn the tide of the Revolutionary War at Kings Mountain, the future legend in his teenage years repeatedly traveled on foot from eastern Tennessee to Virginia across the Appalachian mountains, developing skills and achieving feats for which he’d become so well known later. He served under General Andrew Jackson in the Creek War and in Jackson’s campaign, late in the War of 1812, to drive the British out of Florida. By the age of 32 he’d been appointed a justice of the peace, elected lieutenant colonel of the Tennessee Militia, and started several successful business enterprises.

Referring to his as “Davy” presumes a familiarity that no living man posesses. He deserves more respect that that.
Born on a mountain top in Tennessee
Greenest state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods so he knew ev’ry tree
Kilt him a b’ar when he was only three
Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier!
Oh wait, that was a different guy.

Given Hollywood’s wokeness, Crocket would likely be depicted as a Black lesbian
I think there’s been 8 movies made about this going back to 1915. They’re all OK in their way but I get your point about needing a really great one.
FYI there’s a Scottish singer named Carl Peterson who created an album of scottish-themed songs about the Alamo on the theory that a number of the defenders were of Scottish origin. One of the songs has the coolest chorus ever:
“Heyyyyyy-up Santy Anna we’re killin’ your soldiers below...”
“Born in 1786 in that part of North Carolina which was then the renegade “State of Franklin” but not yet the State of Tennessee, “Davy” Crockett was a legend even in his own time, and long before the Texas “
My first discovery of the state of Franklin was when I was researching my Book, “Jesus Wept, an American Story”.
I found birth certificates of ancestors listing their birthplace as the State of Franklin.
Interesting constitution they came up with..no clergy, teachers or lawyers could serve in the legislature. Not a bad idea!!
"Born on a mountain top in the State of Franklin" has too many syllables.
Maybe "Born on a hill in the State of Franklin" would work. But the inaccurate version sounds better.
The prohibition on clergy serving in the legislature was still part of the Tennessee State Constitution until 2022.
Tennessee voters approved Amendment 4 in November 2022, effectively removing the restriction in Article IX, Section 1 of the state constitution that previously prohibited ministers of the gospel or priests of any denomination from serving in the state legislature. This change followed the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in McDaniel v. Paty, which found such bans unconstitutional.
Historic Restriction: Article IX, Section 1 of the Tennessee Constitution originally stated that no “minister of the Gospel, or priest of any denomination whatever, shall be eligible to a seat in either House of the Legislature”.
Supreme Court Ruling (1978): In McDaniel v. Paty, the U.S. Supreme Court declared this Tennessee restriction unconstitutional, ruling that it violated the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment.
Constitutional Amendment (2022): Despite the 1978 ruling, the language remained in the constitution until it was officially removed by a voter-approved amendment in November 2022.
I read Walter Lord’s history of the Alamo and was introduced to how difficult it was to find out what happened from the few sources available. He did say the final attack occurred at night. The technology is probably available to depict that so viewers would accept it. The night attacks by the Japanese in The Pacific seemed to work.
no clergy, teachers or lawyers could serve in the legislature.
Should be amendment 1A to the original constitution.
Lawyers who pass the BAR are indebted and pledged to a higher power than US citizens. They should be kept out of Legislatures, as should Pastors and Ministers who have profitable scams...errr churches and charitable orgs running.

Donovan did a song on it in 1965.

Hollywood would have to dig up some old guys who knew how to handle night lighting for scenes, and a director old enough to not insist that night scenes be pure black and unwatchable, as they tend to be now days.
I think for big night scenes they can film during the day and use filters to make them seem like night.
30 Days of Night was done perfectly.
“Hollywood would have to dig up some old guys who knew how to handle night lighting for scenes, “
In the olden days night scenes were filmed during the day.
