Donald Trump’s attempt to bully his Nato allies into handing over Greenland by imposing tariffs is, even by his standards, a step too far. The President is used to getting what he wants — to use his own words, “the soft way or the hard way”.
And with one eye on his historical legacy, Mr Trump seems determined to purchase or annex the Arctic island, even if in the process he unleashes a trade war and destroys the Atlantic alliance.
Nothing can justify this exercise of raw power. The US already has a base in Greenland and could, if it so wished, reopen many more that have been closed since the end of the Cold War.
The same applies to mineral excavations there. Even if the Russians and Chinese were about to encroach on the island – for which no intelligence has so far been published – we and our European allies have a strategic interest in Greenland that is just as legitimate as that of the US.
The Greenlanders themselves, like the Kingdom of Denmark to which they belong, are clear that their homeland is not for sale.
As far as Westminster is concerned, there ought to be a consensus across the political spectrum that the proposed Greenland tariff on European nations is, in Kemi Badenoch’s words, “a terrible idea”. While there is no call (like Sir Ed Davey) to insult Mr Trump as “an extortionist”, the Prime Minister is right to describe the tariffs as “completely wrong”.
He and Mrs Badenoch are clear that the US has no claim on Greenland. Nigel Farage merely says that Reform does not agree with the tariffs. He could and should go further.

Trump has blown the New World Order to smithereens and they are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
If the British people don’t stand up to that destroyer of humanity and deal with him decisively, England will cease to exist.
Owwwwwwww! Please do ‘herr’ shtarmer.
You and what army, Kier? All of your third-world rapists?
Dear stupid Telegraph writer, England has far greater problems than either Trump or Greenland. Please address your invasion while you still can.
You mean like Europe and the UK slapping huge fines on US tech companies for allowing free speech?
Oh no? How about having the facts and many decades of established law on your side?
The UK media would like to portray that the issue is how Starmer just needs to stiffen his spine, but there are far bigger issues already in play. The raw truth is that the UK gubmint leaders are on the wrong side of history and with PDJT doing what he promised he would do, the UK, EU, and WEF are irrevocably headed down the drain.
“....... attempt to bully his Nato allies.”..........
They don’t have to be our NATO allies anymore. We can do better.
LOL, I was thinking of a response, but...yours fits fine!
Europe is more worried about Greenland getting invaded than their own countries lol
“Adolf Hitler must stand up to Winston Churchill”
As of January 2026, Keir Starmer is the most unpopular Prime Minister on record. His net favorability fell to a nadir of -59% in early January 2026, with only 11% of voters satisfied with his performance.
but on the other hand
As of January 2026, Starmer’s relationship with the LGBTQ+ community is at an all-time low due to several major policy shifts:
Policy Reversals: In 2025, Starmer recanted his previous 2022 statement that “trans women are women,” following a Supreme Court ruling on biological sex.
“Section 28 2.0” Allegations: His government introduced new school guidance for 2026 that limits how gender identity is taught, leading some activists to compare it to the controversial 1980s Section 28 legislation.
Charity Backlash: Leading LGBTQ+ charities like Stonewall have recently accused his administration of a “genuine crisis” for the rights and dignity of trans people.
Keir is an unabashed buffoon, if only he knew it.
Just trying to distract from what a pos Starmer is.
Canada signed a deal with China. Unbelievable.
Yeah that’s the ticket Europe, fight with America! That will really improve your security. /s
Destroying NATO is the bigger side benefit.
Keir Starmer would wet his pink knickers just thinking of that.
