Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) stunning decision to drop his reelection bid is raising speculation that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) may run for the seat, thrilling members of her party at a time when they find themselves ensnared in a growing political scandal over widespread fraud.
The New York Times reported that Walz and Klobuchar met on Sunday, a day before Walz officially announced his move to forgo a run for a third term. A source close to Klobuchar told NewsNation she was “considering it” but hadn’t made a final decision yet.
A potential Klobuchar gubernatorial bid is seen as a boon for Democrats, who have struggled to counter Republican attacks over the fraud scandal as they look to win races for governor and Senate this year.
“I think it’s kind of a no-brainer for the Democrats for her to step in this space, and I think it all but assures them victory coming up,” said Sean Oyaas, who served as a top political aide on the Walz-Flanagan campaign from 2018-22.
Walz announced Monday he would forgo his reelection bid for a third term as the widespread fraud scandal roiled his campaign. Prosecutors allege that as much as $9 billion has been stolen as part of a sweeping fraud scheme involving state-administered social welfare programs, such as food assistance for children in need.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., is facing additional allegations of abusing her staff after a report Friday said the presidential candidate berated an aide for forgetting to bring utensils — forcing the lawmaker to eat a salad with a comb.
The episode happened in 2008 while the lawmaker was traveling with aides to South Carolina and a staffer bought a salad for Klobuchar while carrying bags through the airport, The New York Times reported.
However, the aide forgot utensils and the flight had none on board, prompting Klobuchar to berate the aide and pull a comb from her bag to eat the salad, the paper reported citing four people familiar with the episode. Klobuchar then directed the aide to clean the comb after she had finished.
Does she still comb her hair with a spoon?

News reports noted his announcement came amid
scrutiny over his administration’s handling of the fraud.
Kamala Harris expressed her support for Walz’s decision to not seek a third term as Gov,
stating that it “reflects that same selfless commitment to the people he serves”.
She wished him and his family the best in their “next chapter”.
In a statement released on social media following Walz’s announcement
on January 5, 2026, Harris commended his long history of public service:
Kamala Harris’s statement highlighted Walz’s dedication to “public service” and to Minnesotans.
That means she’s worse than walz.

I read a substack called Coffee and Covid. The Author, Jeff Childers thinks Amy Klobuchar’s Sunday visit with Walz was only to tell him not run again. And why would she trade a do nothing safe seat in the Senate and jump in to clean up Walz’s mess?
