Energy Grid Near Collapse🚨⚡️Officers Urge Zelensky to Withdraw from Pokrovsk🏃♂️💨MS For 2025.11.08
It all begins when we hear a fresh idea. Gaining unique perspective from experts across numerous backgrounds is why many of us read Free Republic in the first place.
PAR35 posted his teaser: "read Finnish history in the 20th century... to learn how the Ukraine war is going to end." And that aroused my curiosity.
I knew Finland and Russia had fought each other at some point in history, but I knew neither the date nor any other details. So I posted a simple Google search: "when did Russia and Finland fight each other"?
That search pointed me to a Wikipedia topic: Winter War.
So knowing the widely-adopted name for the war between Russian and Finland, we can go into Google search again and ask it an on-target question such as: What was the result of the Winter War?. And you get to read a beautiful summary of key thinking on that key point.
The Google summary is guaranteed to be better analysis than you can find on Wikipedia. And the related search recommendations will lead you to the deeper analysis you are looking for.
For instance, I found a splendid essay titled, The Winter War: The Soviet Invasion of Finland a well-written piece with great pictures to break up the text.
And while we know that Wikipedia is weak on details and is often politically biased, it can still be a secondary source for things like statistics, in this case, on the number of war deaths and casualties.
One other invaluable research aid is to search for images, such as maps showing and areas ceded to Russia,
I've emphasized Google path to a deeper research (or AI as it's called), and I'm curious to see what other AI research is available at low or no cost.
Long term, I think Google is moving search users to better sources than Wikipedia alone. Google not only keeps track of how many people access sources of text/content intelligence on a particular subject, but also the site visits of expert searchers in the particular field of knowledge. If Victor Davis Hanson visits a site often, I'll bet the site gets more hits. :-)
OK, I've spent some time exploring this research method, what do you FReepers think? Cheers.
My trust level for AI is lower than many. I’ve found some of the Google summaries to be excellent, and have given me what I need, in most cases I’ll use the information as a basis for a search and look for more traditionally reliable sources.
As for the Russian - Finnish wars, be sure to also look at the Continuation War.
Weird how you never see their names on the FR donors board...
😉😂😂
Wikipedia: if it evens SMELLS of politics, it’s garbage.
Winter War scenario in Ukraine.
My estimate is that the war will end sometime between 2030-2035.
Ukraine refuses to surrender their territory.
Russia cannot go home empty-handed because that will threaten Putin's legitimacy as a "strongman".
Wikipedia can't usually lie about numbers and get away with it.
Notice I said USUALLY. YMMV
Will the “Patriots” leading Ukraine bleed their nation out, or settle this?
I think if left to their own, they really would fight until the last Ukrainian, may that young boy grabbed from the street and forced into a van agree with that or not! LOL
An end to this war probably means an end to Ukraine’s junta.
Junta: a military or political group that rules a country after taking power by force.
An end to this war under these conditions also looks really bad for NATO.
Many folks in the West pinned their reputation on this war too.
IMHO, this war is continued because of political futures, not because Ukraine has a realistic chance of winning or changing the outcome. In fact, the longer the war goes on, the WORSE the deal will be for Ukraine since Russia will be sitting on more of Ukraine and the power balance will likely shift even more in Russia’s favor.
LOL! You are *this very thread* having already done exactly what I said! No proof? LOL!
I consider Military personnel (active, retired, and inactive) who support the Democrat Party as oath breakers, unfit for any consideration.
“In fact, the longer the war goes on, the WORSE the deal will be for Ukraine since Russia will be sitting on more of Ukraine”
November 2022: Russia held about 19% of Ukraine
November 2025: Russia holds about 19% of Ukraine
Sure, Ukraine is winning, I forgot. (Sarc)
Every month, Ukraine loses a little bit, ~168 square miles.
Russia’s just keeping the pressure on.
They already have most of what they want, you can’t seem to get that fact in your head.
Ukraine is not in NATO. Political objective.
Most the largely ethnic Russian areas are under Russian control. Military objective.
Russia is running a low risk, casualty averse game, aimed at being able to sustain a long fight (partial mobilization, 7.1% GDP on war). Russia “is” balancing guns vs. butter and how they see this war can beat be summed up by who they put in charge more or less, an economist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrey_Belousov
Many folks in the West pinned their reputation on this war too.
I’d say not really.
Drones have a range limit. Particularly these quad rotor things carrying 3 lbs of explosives. The more payload, the less range.
So drawing lines on a map at most would be what, 2 miles uncertain? If someone occupies a spot, and the next day other people are being attacked farther in some direction, you see what you see.
Satellite imagery won’t have the geolocation problems because it is hyper precise as to position and observation angle. Also, if satellite imagery were customary and a norm, you will get more and more soldiers spreading out flags, not holding them up to get shot, spreading them out for the satellite.
“I don’t have my own reality.”
LOL! - You guys have been WRONG about literally EVERYTHING in this war...and you don’t stop.
Sounds like the definition of an “alternate reality” to me.
I notice you’re not posting the links, zeepazoid.

Agreed.
I should add one additional facet to your notion.
Identify by name and with more than one reference the individual(s) and actual source(s) of those who make statements about any event and/or issue.
Anonymous and suppressed authors' identities should be seen as suspect.
Given the Chinese whispers (telephone) games and wrap up smears in which ten "sources" are based on some other single source, identify the original sources, rather than the hearsay. Both the Turing and Searle tests apply here as well as to issue of machine searches, such that one should be able to work beyond "if we fool you, it's true."
“Most the largely ethnic Russian areas are under Russian control. “
Interesting that those regions did NOT want to be under Russian control.
