Agree. There really is no other choice.
I don’t think Hughes was talking about the murder of Charlie per se in that statement; he was referring to vicious online celebration of it, which suggests that attitudes toward murder itself have been rendered ‘just another headline’ by political rage.
I think he could have put that differently, but I don’t think he meant to say that Kirk’s beliefs and influence had nothing to do with his murder.
More like we’re ALL mind controlled to some degree.
Understand that while they may hate "old rich white guys" who are openly conservative they reserve their deepest and most psychotic rage for anyone who falls outside that demographic who does not blindly follow them.
You will never run into more people cheering for you to be silenced by any means necessary then if you are young or female or an ethnic minority but not on the liberal plantation. Because you are living proof that being an American success is not just for the "male, pale and stale".

You may be missing the point of the article.
You may see it differently based on what you have experienced but I think I am seeing it quite clearly from my vantage point.
The article seems to me to be about the ways in which the public is influenced, largely through the media.

Media or no, there is an Us and a Them. And we are not the same.
There are the people who want to just be left alone to get on with life and there are the control freaks who just have to make you do things their way.
Just yesterday we had story about a guy who had a hissy every time his neighbor would sit out on her own porch with her cat because that apparently would "bother his dog". The conflict escalated until she shot him with a flare gun. That has nothing to do with media. That has to do with the people who have something wrong with them mentally or emotionally to the point that anyone not doing what they say or agreeing with everything they say sends them off the deep end.
The title seemed to say Hughes was the scam. Funny that.
I think he’s making the point that everyone is influenced in many ways by modern media and that they may be unaware it’s happening. (And the Right has its own ‘control freaks’. It’s not a leftist monopoly.)
I didn’t see anything about ‘hugging’; just about being aware of how we are all influenced.

I agree with your assessment. Possibly an operative. Something about Chase Hughes sets off my alarm bells.
While I agree with Hughes 100% that social media and the news media are making people crazy and magnifying our societal divisions on both left and right, I just don’t see the insane evil that we’ve witnessed coming from our side.
The left are violent, not us. We on the right already understand that our neighbors, even those with different opinions, are not monsters worthy of hatred.
It feels to me like Hughes is trying to temper the unprecedented outrage which is now exploding on the right by redirecting it towards a nebulous and weirdly undefined “elite”.
I really cant agree taht a tent whose center pole is unrestricted abortion is my neighbor who just wants to raise her children. “ How do you even dream that up?
