the poorest folks in the U.S. are the heaviest. in my lifetime, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone starving to death in the United States. Sometimes crazy people put their foster kids or something in cages but other than that if you want food, you can get it.
I can recall back in the 70’s that there were restrictions on what you could buy. Seems over the yrs almost anything became eligilble.

Is this state wide? I know SNAP is associated with the federal agricultural program. I hope this is true in BLUE states (NYS) because it’s bad enough that we get people coming back from down south due to “more resources” aka more welfare here in NY. You should SEE the applications I get for my residential rental units!

If you see someone with a full cart at Walmart, about 90% (if you’re in the wrong kinda town) that it’s EBT paying for it. Behind them in line they’ll get the steaks, etc. with EBT and then whip out cash for cigarettes and booze.
Meanwhile... you suckers buy a regular load of groceries with cash while the Walmart ‘workers’ watch you self checkout (doing their job) for shoplifting.
I did go through actual hunger caused by little food and sometimes nothing to eat, and I’m talking real getting skinnier from lack of food, with not just missed morning and lunch meals, but missed suppers, as a kid during the 50s, but that was probably due to my mother’s refusal to accept government help (I later learned that there was such a thing), it was probably available, and in America there is no way neighbors/charities/churches/even government, would have allowed anyone to just lie down and die of starvation rather than get involved.
Starvation in America isn’t a reality.
Not sure but Food Stamps is a federal free give away. The rules should apply to all states or U.S. territories that are using the program for their Welfare Wagon Riders.
About 5 years ago, I saw a Latino woman in front of me in line with a shopping cart chock full of food and stuff at the supermarket, with about 6 kids hanging off the sides like it was some kind of a ride at Disney.
The cashier rang everything up and it came to several hundred dollars. The Latino woman handed the cashier a voucher which she did not recognize, nor did the scanner. She handed it back to the woman with the kids who spoke no English. She just handed her the voucher again. The manager came and tried to run the voucher through the scanner a few times to no avail. Tried punching in the printed numbers. Nothing. Tried handing it back to the Latino, who just handed it back to the manager.
Finally, he just waved her on through the checkout line and out to the parking lot. Never had to pay a dime.
All food stamps should be able to buy is AMERICAN MADE cheese, beans, rice, chicken, eggs, milk, flour and multi-vitamins.

You left out the cliche of SNAP users passion for lobster to eat along with their steaks.
Whether your food budget is cash, or SNAP, it will disappear almost instantly if you buy the most expensive things in the store, and do snap users really go to Walmart to buy all this steak and lobster.
