I used to gap points with a matchbook cover.
Big old Straight Six there…single venturi carburetor…
I miss that. The simplicity and pride of “Do it yourself”.
Simple oil change… simple plug gap and change… swap out a timing chain, fuel pump, or water pump…
Better days

A buddy of mine back in auto tech school had a 8 Mustang fastback with a 428 in it. I had a 67 Fastback at the time with 390 in it.
In mine, there was just enough room to get your hand down by the shock tower to change the middle to spark plugs on either side of the block
On my buddies car, we had to loosen the motor mounts and jack the engine up slightly to get to those same two plugs… Not kidding. It was that tight.
But we didn’t care… We were kids with really fast cars.

Most could not replace their breaker points.

Had a 67 fastback mustang with that same engine.
Brutal power. Ass end bounced all over the place when I punched it. Finally put four 50 pound sandbags in the trunk, in the wheel wells to get traction.
Wish i would gave kept that one… theyre worth a pretty penny now.

I had two Ford Country Squires with the wood sides.
I was able to haul a six-piece rock band and all the equipment around New England in thos two vehicles.

My dream car is a 1970 Monte Carlo 454.
I had a 1978 Monte Carlo, as my first car in fact.

I remember a Top Gear episode where Jeremy Clarkson was driving a Ford F-150 thru the narrow streets of town and on the road scraping everything as the truck was just too big for English towns and roads.

Yes. It has power windows and AC as well, pretty neat for a ‘63.
To: desertsolitaire
As I recall...those windows were almost 3/8” thick with chrome trim on the edges.

Vent windows, also known as "wind wings," were small, hinged windows in the front doors of passenger cars, typically found in vehicles from the 1930s through the 1970s. They were designed to be angled outward to direct airflow into the car's cabin, providing ventilation before air conditioning became common. Modern cars rarely include vent windows due to the prevalence of air conditioning and improved aerodynamics.
