Tu fala Português?   I was stationed in the Açores for two years.   Don't worry I didn't learn much Português back then.   But the phrase you will get used to is "tu fala inglês?"

Tu fala Português? I was stationed in the Açores for two years. Don't worry I didn't learn much Português back then. But the phrase you will get used to is "tu fala inglês?"

I learned a few phrases such as "muito obrigado." One word I am having trouble with is "refeição." It doesn't sound much like it is spelled. R's that sound like H's? One thing I like about Spanish is that the words are pronounced exactly like they are spelled like "comida."

For words ending in -ção, remember the ç (c with a little squiggle down there) is always read as ‘s’ , then the ‘ão’ bit is ‘ouw’ as nasal as you can get it (try pinching your nose while saying it to get an idea of the nasal sound). So, we pronounce the ending ‘sauw’.

The locals in the Azores seemed to also a slight n sound, as if it was ‘ouwn’.

But you might remember that they are in Europe so if you hear translations it could be British English and instead of American English.

Also there is a difference between Brazilian pronunciation and a Mainland Portuguese pronunciation.   I think that r swapped to h is in Brazil.

I'm baaaaack from Portugal. We had a series of incredible adventures and misadventures, met a lot of interesting as well as weird people, and absolutely enjoyed the incredible food and wine.

However, something happened to me there that I am somewhat hesitant to talk about because I'm sure the trolls will accuse me of "click bait." I don't want to outright say it from the get-go because it has to be put in the proper prospective. In fact, it is something that makes me uncomfortable to reveal because if I heard it from someone else, I would be skeptical and suspicious of the person's motives. So the main reason I will talk about it is simply the fact that IT happened. And if you want slam ol' PJ for talking about it, then so be it. Fortunately I do have video documentation to back up in part at least what I will be telling you. Also I did a video search and found out that happened to me does NOT naturally occur.

I hope to have a video out later today that will summarize the highlights of our trip. Over the next few weeks I will present more detailed videos supplemented by the videos and photos I took in Portugal.
