A Florida woman was denied service at a Taco Bell because none of the workers spoke English. Apparently the Chalupa Supreme Combo doesn’t translate South-of-the-border.
Alexandria Montgomery posted a video of the entire incident as it unfolded in the drive-thru of the Taco Bell in Hialeah.
“Nobody here speaks English? Nobody in the back speaks English? So you can’t take my order,” Montgomery said.
At one point another staffer intervened, but that individual claimed not to speak English, too.
“She doesn’t want to help me because she don’t speak English. But you know the menu. You work here, so you would know what I’m talking about if I say I want number six on the menu. You understand what I’m saying? Like, you just don’t completely shut me out cuz you don’t speak English, that’s not fair,” Montgomery said.
Montgomery said Taco Bell later reached out to apologize and offer her a gift card. But perhaps they should be enrolling their staff in an ESL class?
“I understand everyone in Miami doesn’t speak English, and that’s fine, but if she was willing to work with me, I think the outcome would’ve been different,” Montgomery told NBC 6.
In a statement, Taco Bell said that the incident “does not meet our customer experience expectations.”
“We have worked quickly to resolve with the customer to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” Taco Bell wrote to NBC 6.
It seems to me that anyone who moves to America and refuses to learn our language should be deported. Without a common language we can’t have a sovereign nation nor can we order the delicious Cheesy Gordita Crunch.

When I lived there, I got the distinct feeling that they did not like us gringos..............
Yep. Those commercials aren’t meant to sell anything to me.
We have a local Taco restaurant called ‘TACO TOWN’, cheaper than TB and mucho better food.
Their slogan is “Why run for the border when you can eat in Town?...................
Ah..she got dissed.! Oh the pity...
I had a similar experience in Mons, Belgium. My co-workers picked a new restaurant. The staff only spoke French. I ended up doing the ordering for the group.
I was in Puerto Rico for 33 days straight on a project and a couple of other workers used to stop at Burger King. If you tried to order in English they would act like they had no idea what you were saying. If you at least made an attempt at Spanish, they would help you and lo and behold they would start speaking English.
Welsh is very phonetic and easy for me. I'm still struggling with Scot's Gaelic. I haven't learned all the rules to pronounce it from the written form. I'm comfortable speaking and listening. It's just hard to find good resources. Jason Bond on Youtube is a pretty good Gaelic teacher.
Same happened to me in Laredo back in the late eighties. Teenage kid, new school, new town, found myself in the minority. Couldn’t get a job because I didn’t speak Spanish. Not even at McDonald’s. Teachers at school taught in Spanish and got pissed when I raised my hand to remind them I didn’t speak Spanish, so that pissed everyone off. I got my azz handed to me several times. Dropped out and joined the Navy. Couldn’t take it anymore.
I had a similar experience in France. I'm hardly a fluent speaker, but the French appreciated the effort and I was concise enough in my requests to finish transactions for parking tickets, train tickets and restaurant orders. On my return from the UK to Belgium, I missed a turn and ended up on a long, dark toll road. There was a mini-mart along the way. I successfully requested a map and paid for it. The cashier only spoke French. It was a long, dark venture back to Belgium. I arrived back at the hotel at 5 AM with just enough time to pack my bags and head to the airport in Brussels to come home to the US.
No quiero Taco Bell.
Be sure to read The Awful German Language by Mark Twain. I happened across that while I was taking a couple of years of German in college.
Customer who was refused b/c no Spanish is black.
Lawyered up and Race card played in 3...2...1...
A gift certificate won’t be good enough, lawsuit incoming.
Many of my friends were cuban. They are very nice people but they are nationalistic and they are mostly waiting for a take back of the country so they can move back home. Or anyway they like to think that.
The older ones maybe, but we are now three generations into USA so the younger ones are just Americans.................
No, the hiring manager is a racist. It preferred only spanglish speaking employees ‘cause that provides street cred.
In Spain, if you go to Barcelona, and they know you’re from Spain, they will refuse to speak to you in Spanish, they demand you speak Catalan. But if they know you are not from Spain they will speak to you in Spanish.
