Fox News obtained exclusive information regarding the crew members aboard the Army helicopter at the time of the accident. The instructor pilot commanding the Black Hawk boasted 1,000 flying hours.
Meanwhile, his co-pilot was a woman with 500 flying hours, considered to be a standard level of experience in aviation circles.
The revelation that the co-pilot was a woman has reignited ongoing debates about gender roles within military operations.

Oh yeah, it’s still true. Women get all kinds of special help and lowered standards in the military. Ranger school is an example, and yes, flight school and squadrons.
When someone wants to fail a female in today’s military, it is something the commander had better be damned sure of. His career is on the line.
Same for foreign pilots like Saudis, Jordanians, and others we train here.

Why it was called a training mission - she had 500 hours logged. I have over 5,000 and still go under training every 6 months in the Citation I fly.
The “woman pilot” was likely perfectly OK as a pilot.
The news just coming out that at the time of the incident the involved Air Traffic Controller (ATC) WAS HANDLING WHAT WAS NORMALLY SPLIT BETWEEN TWO CONTROLLERS. That well may have been a MAJOR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR causing the crash.
That the co-pilot was a woman may or may not be relevant. It depends on whether she was the one controlling the aircraft at the time and whether she had underperformed in the past but was given a pass because of her gender.
Perhaps pertinent to that point is the fact the pilot who confirmed with the tower that the helo had the airliner in sight had a male voice.
It is possible of course, with NVGs he was looking in one direction and responded on the basis of input from the female who was looking in another.
It was a training flight.

It only takes 250 to get a commercial ticket. At 1500 you're eligible for an Airline Transport Pilot rating, which is the highest rating there is. You have to have an ATP to serve as pilot (in either seat) in an FAR Part 121 operation.
They really should shut these threads down because the majority of the information put forward is ignorant of either aviation in general or military aviation in particular and the speculations are wildly uninformed.

I have had the opportunity to work professionally with many small aircraft pilots. About 25% of them were women. With one exception, they were excellent.
I am a retired Army Officer but not a piolot. I cannot understand how that helicopter acted almost like a guided missile aimed straight at the plane. How could the piolots not see it in the distance with all it’s lights on and it being a clear night? Something smells bad here.
