Musk weighs in on plan for $20 trillion tunnel linking New York to London
Unexplained Mysteries ^ | December 16, 2024 | T.K. Randall

Spanning 3,400 miles, the tunnel would be the most ambitious infrastructure project ever undertaken. The difficulties of building an underground rail tunnel all the way from London to New York might seem insurmountable, yet plans to actually construct such a tunnel are genuinely being considered, with those behind the idea estimating that it could cost somewhere in the region of $20 trillion.

Not only would the tunnel be the longest ever built by a huge margin at 3,400 miles long, but it would also make incredibly fast trans-Atlantic travel a reality, with trips between New York and London taking a mere 54 minutes to complete.

This remarkably short travel time would be achieved by creating a vacuum within the tunnel and using pressurized vehicles that could theoretically reach speeds of up to 3,000mph.

At that depth, think Titantic sub like implosion. You are going to need way, way more than a snorkel. And a way to get past the mountain of rocks .

Yep ! And under a lot of pressure…

But a carbon fiber shell (Titantic sub( should be enough, right?

The money is part of what Musk was talking about. Like do it for much less than they were proposing,
You need to keep up, boy!

(What type of tunnel or tube could possibly withstand the outlandishly tremendous water pressures at the depths of the ocean bed)

It would be built 100s of feet below the ocean bed in solid rock.

It can be done, no question. There is just no need because cargo ships and planes are more efficient.

However, another problem is how to power the train to go through it, because you would be looking at an approximately 5000-6000 km. That’s like trying to power a home in California from a powerplant in New York.

Building the mighty Starship and catching it from the air is much harder than you think.
Look it up!

Nonsense! Musk is simply bold, aduacious, inspired, brilliant, the smartest and richest man in the world. He is on another plane and walks on water! /s

There is the little matter of crossing the little old mid-Atlantic Ridge something very seismically active. Things like even lava flows.

Answer me this, how is he powering Starship to Mars, a 6/7 month trip millions of miles away? 5000-6000 km is like kindergarten by comparison.

Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper to get back into supersonic air travel instead? There are ideas out there for mitigating the sonic boom issues .

They’re proposing to put a vacuum in a tube that has 5000 PSI of water pressure on it.

Think on that for a minute.

Certainly not through a powerline, that’s for sure.
He’ll probably use the same methods that were used for NASA projects to Mars.

Is Musk really this stupid? I hope not....

It's his brand. Throw some crazy Buck Rogers ideal agains the wall, and see what sticks.
