Massive Shift to Trump of RFK Jr. Endorses Him, Poll Reveals
Daily Fetched ^ | August 23, 2024 | Jason Walsh

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially withdrew from the 2024 presidential race this week as rumors swirl that he is about to throw his support behind former President Donald Trump.

Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, revealed on Tuesday that the campaign is mulling over aligning with Trump.

“There’s two options that we’re looking at,” Shanahan said earlier this week.

The first involves staying in the race, or “we walk away right now and join forces with Donald Trump,” Shanahan explained.

Pollster Rich Baris said Trump could inherit a significant portion of Kennedy’s supporters, with surveys suggesting that 40% of Kennedy’s backers would pivot to Trump if Kennedy exits.

That number could jump over 60% with Kennedy’s endorsement, while Vice President Kamala Harris might capture about a quarter of his base,

“I think it was a coronation, it’s not democracy. Nobody voted. Who chose Kamala? It wasn’t voters,” RFK Jr. told ABC News about the convention.

“She [Kamala] went in four weeks from being the worst liability for the Democratic Party to the second coming of Christ without giving one interview, without showing up for a debate, without a single policy that anyone thinks isn’t ridiculous. It’s not democracy.”

Independents have surpassed Democrats in number and even briefly outstripped Republicans as the largest voter group last year, according to Axios.

The cohort has consistently made up more than a quarter of general election voters over the last decade.

The independent label is broad, it doesn’t guarantee uniform support for independent candidates.

Arizona’s independents span a large spectrum of political beliefs, making them a crucial yet unpredictable factor in any election.

However, no independent candidate has ever won a state-level or federal office in Arizona. As both camps prepare for Friday’s events, eyes will be on Kennedy’s next move.

The RFK supporters that didn’t want Biden already moved to Harris weeks ago. Her bump in the polls reflected this. The remaining supporters will move to Trump or sit out the election.

I think most of RFK’s supporters who are going to support Kamala have already moved over to Kamala. This may partially explain any bump in the polls Kamala has received.

HHS? Maybe. I’d give RFK Jr the choice as in “what issue areas/problem areas do you want to address?” and “which position do you think is best to do that?”

It could be that the best position would be head of NIH or head of FDA.

Quite possible, HHS is so broad that the influence he could exert on his key passionate issues would be diluted by the larger responsibility.

I predict rfk will disappoint us today.

~~~
I was just about to post something like this.
I’m not predicting that he will do this, but I am just suggesting that you should get yourself ready for a surprise twist.
The guy has been a democrat his whole career (so far as I know).
His family are entrenched democrats.
He is a big lefty on environmental issues, and while I personally actually love nature subscribe to the idea of both humans and the environmental destruction and chemical polution (I don’t believe in the CO2 myth though), it is hard for me to fathom that someone like that doesn’t think the republicans are somehow evil, and never would join with them.
Also look at the timing. The democrats just had their convention. The media and the convention coverage gave Kamala the boost that they were very tentative wouldn’t happen. So look for someone like RFKjr. to possibly be a bandwagon jumper.
RFK’s VP nominee Shanahan is interesting——she became a billionaire through her divorce from Google founder Sergey Brin. Buzz is the split was caused by her fling with Elon Musk.
Wow. She's hyper-hypergametic.
I think the biggest issue is people around RFK whispering in his ears, I can’t imagine all people within his camp would be happy with him endorsing Trump, but we can only wait and see what happens.
Good for you—and her!
Many can’t understand that underneath the significant differences in how to get to and support common values can be common values.
She's not all in. She could fund a VP run in all 50 states out mad money, like what Bloomberg did, but she won't.
RFK Jr wants to severely prune back the State Dept and
abolish the profligate USAID (which his uncle started).
On many many issues, no.......but here he is an ally.
Wonder what Trump promised him.
He could be in charge of cleaning up the FBI and CIA.
If RFKjr is down by the border where Trump will be having his speech, then it seems very likely they have already agreed to do SOMETHING together there. So I’m probably very wrong about my admonitions to wait and see.
Based on what I outlined about RFKjr being a lifelong democrat, and his family being democrats for generations, and him being an environmentalist (who typically thing republicans are bad), it would just be a hyooge hyooge surprise.
