I think he was on the way to CSM, and was actually given that title while he was in the process of attaining it. However, he “retired” (quit) before the entire process of exams or whatever were completed, so he was put back to MS.
I think the point to go after is that he embellishes/lies to enhance his stature - and to find more examples of this type of behavior.
BUT - I would focus (like Vance has) about how picking him as VP shows that Harris is as radical as one gets, and picks such a radical VP. Then mention the dishonesty, but go after his record (laws requiring tampons in 4th grade boys bathrooms, laws allowing transgender minors to obtain medical treatment and not providing information or return to their parents, etc.).
At this point Tampon Tim may have to step down... You don’t get away with stolen valor, it’s one of the worse things a candidate can do.

In my mind, the stolen valor comes from him claiming to have carried a weapon in war in Iraq.
The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 specifically makes it a crime to falsely claim military service, embellished rank, or earned awards with the intent to obtain money, property, or other tangible benefits. I guess you could say he intended to obtain tangible benefits (VP) by embellishing his record.
Lies are Walz’s favorite weapon.

A lot of folks here do not understand how political campaigns work.
I worked advance on several of them.
When you have a new opponent step 1 is opposition research.
That is a data collection effort.
You collect all the data you can find.
You don’t worry about whether the data is important or not or who cares about it. You just collect all the data.
Step 2: When the opposition research is complete you then use private polls with key groups you have identified to find out which of these pieces of data matter to them.
You assume nothing. You predict nothing. If anyone in the campaign start pontificating before this analysis is complete you throw them out of the room.
Based on the first set of results you do more detailed polling on the most important issues to help you decide how to frame them. Sometimes people who don’t care about a specific issue might care if you presented it in a way that made them care about it.
In this case—stolen valor should matter to veterans regardless of party.
Lying should matter to everybody.
Only detailed polling can tell you what is really happening out there.
In the real world you assume nothing and test everything.
