Go to 4:50 in the video in the link below. You will hear there was only 5 shell casings.
The Director said there were 8 shots fired.
I think he said 1 shot was the counter sniper team?
So where were the other 2 shots from?

It was a rapid initial and informal count the moment he arrived at the shooter’s location. It was not a formal evidence-gathering exercise.
(In the vid from near Crooks, the 1st 3 shots are distinctly different in at least 3 ways from the 2nd group, of 5 shots)

Wray told the truth on the things that were not the focus of the full story. A good tactic taught by the FBI.

I watched the 8 count video clip. Looks like the same person counting as in the 5 count video clip.
I think the 8 casing count counts casings past the peak of the roof, while the 5 casing count maybe only counts casings on the same side of the peak as the body.
So Crooks might have fired the 3 and 5 from different positions and/or stances, which could account for the difference in sound in the close-to-Crooks recordings.
If I remember correctly, this possibility was mentioned as one alternative by the Peak Prosperity guy.
So best evidence favors one and only one shooter toward the stage, I guess.
Doesn't "shell casing" describe the brass casing that holds the lead slug, the primer and the smokeless powder? What do you call it?

What is the possibility that after the 1st 3 shots, Crooks turned and sprayed 5 shots at some movement he thought might be a LEO. That might explain the much different sounding batch of 5 shots? OR, he stood, ripped off 5 at the crowd, and then the counter-sniper got Crooks. That would (barely) explain the man killed having time to try to cover his wife or daughter.
If 8 identical casings were counted on the roof, my thought that Crooks only got off 3 shots is toast, and the notion of a 2nd shooter pretty much is, too.
Yes, as another poster said it was a rapid quick count and your explanation would make sense. As he expanded his vision field such as other side of roof he may have seen more casings, spent cartridges, or whatever you want to call them.
The building owner is going to need a new roof after all of this trampling from Congress, Investigators, and Media.
Well yes — for one, he doesn’t know much about sound waves generated by supersonic objects. He at least recognizes that somewhat.
What are the major thing(s) he is wrong about?
The number of shots, which he puts at 10 (although he questions his #9 to some degree)?
The masking of some shots in the podium microphone recording(s) (the broadcast feeds) (because of auto-levelling or saturation in the audio feed or audio system)?

No one has said if he fired any bullets when he did it.

there were plenty of phones filming. some people were hiding behind trees but sticking their hand out with the phone. others were just standing there in full view with their hands up high filming
I can’t find a video where I can recognize that he swung around with that gun to point to the officer who peaked his head up. Maybe this was about the time he was photographed pointing it to the crowd

You state, “If this is true doesn’t that mean Wray lied through his teeth?? Didn’t he say yesterday that they found 8 casing on the roof??” That is precisely what he said.
I guess it doesn’t do any “protection” so it might just be a nuisance, but I would think setting up three “shot detector” microphones (or whatever they are) would be helpful in these rare cases where there is a shooter(s).
I can’t imagine it would be a huge hassle or expense. Although just one more thing to claim “wasn’t recording at the time”.

But I’m pretty darn sure those people having a gun pointed at them would have also included being actually shot at!
At that moment, I don’t think it’s clear that any LEO had a clear shot @ Crooks. The people in the crowd said they didn’t think the LEO’s near the building could see Crooks.
