I watched the 8 count video clip. Looks like the same person counting as in the 5 count video clip.
I think the 8 casing count counts casings past the peak of the roof, while the 5 casing count maybe only counts casings on the same side of the peak as the body.
So Crooks might have fired the 3 and 5 from different positions and/or stances, which could account for the difference in sound in the close-to-Crooks recordings.
If I remember correctly, this possibility was mentioned as one alternative by the Peak Prosperity guy.
So best evidence favors one and only one shooter toward the stage, I guess.
Yes, as another poster said it was a rapid quick count and your explanation would make sense. As he expanded his vision field such as other side of roof he may have seen more casings, spent cartridges, or whatever you want to call them.
The building owner is going to need a new roof after all of this trampling from Congress, Investigators, and Media.
The acoustic study that Martenson cites is from the University of Colorado fwiw.
They should be able to tell the difference of the sounds of different weapons.
Crooks remained prone during the entire firing sequence and there is a pretty good cell phone video of the whole thing. There are probably several videos. He was in plain sight of a crowd for at least a minute.
He fired eight shots. The first three shots sound completely different from the next five shots. You do not need sensitive audio analyzers to tell the difference. You can plainly hear the difference when listening to the track from the podium microphone.
Does that mean there was another shooter? Maybe.
More likely (IMO) he was using a magazine mistakenly loaded with two different ammunition types and was doing rapid fire because he could not tell if he actually hit Donald Trump in the first three shots.
He paused to check his results - and one of the counter-snipers got him.
The pictures of dead Crooks on the roof were taken after quite a bit of alterations to the scene. He was obviously turned over to the side, perhaps to search the body. The rifle was moved a good fifteen feet away. It is impossible to tell if the backpack was moved or if Crooks abandoned it along the way.
Videos taken as he was crawling up the roof do not show he was carrying a backpack. The story that he turned and pointed his rifle at a police officer is not supported by the video sequence.

The ABC video was edited to change the count. If you compare the original and the ABC video you will see that they match up until the count.
Right after the count, the original has the guy with the ornge gloves on the far side of Crooks.
Right after the count, the ABC video has a guy with black gloves on the near side of Crooks.
ABC edited the original video to replace the five count with an eight count.
